THE ATARIS: "So long, Astoria"

review  by Salvo "Lovedeath" Russo____

The Ataris were a punk-band!!!.....Nowdays they play nothing but ROCK!!!!I can't but admit that this music is able to involve since the first listening. Their previuos album "End is forever" showed a wind of change in their way of makin' songs, and this album confirms what we've listened in their previuos one.
They don't play slow-rock like The Calling, and the only band that comes into my mind when I listen this album is Goo Goo Dolls!!!!Yes, They play very similar to old Goo Goo Dolls!!!...Listening to all these songs I can't but remember that masterpiece of "A boy named goo", after that album  Goo Goo Dolls went into a more melodic slow rock that is far from what we listen in this one!!!The Ataris gets a romantic and melancholic approach into speed rock songs! There's a little of punk ...but very little!!!!!
The songs?!!!!
The opener is the title-track...and it seems a very tribute to Goo Goo Dolls!!!A very good song, in which classic rock joins the punk and Kris shows his fantastic voice !!!!!
The romantic approach involves all the album....and "Takeoffs and Landings" shows how you can create a romantic refrain into a speed song!!!!
"My reply" is another heart-attack song!!!!The guitars are able to create melodic riffs in which Kris creates an unforgattable refrain!!!
Their medative approach and at the same time full of energy makes them one of the most interesting band in this moment!!!The don't use any eletronic loops, They play with Guitar, bass and drums, and piano in romantic parts....
"The saddest song" is another easy-listening song , that could be the next single....!!!!The first single of this album is a very successful cover! It calls "Boys of summer".This song is a 80's hit by Don Hanley , that seems to have been invented to be played by The Ataris!
Kris is one of the best singer ever!!!!His voice seems to be better in high tones and he's able to give the right expressivness in all songs!
"The Hero Dies In This One" gets an unforgattbale refrain, and no one details is wrong! The production is at the top as such as the arrangments!
The album is very good, but it could be not more loved after many listenings from all those who don't appreciate the easy-rock...but This kind of music is made to give immediate sensations, and This band gets all the right characteristics to be famous in all the world!
