IT'S HOT IN THE CITY.

„It’s hot in the city“is a line of text from the song “It’s hot in the city” by Punk Rock legend Billy Idol. This statement fits right, because summer arrived in Basel.

Meanwhile it’s more than ten years since the legendary hardcore band Biohazard played a show in the city of Basel. Now, waiting for was over, because they came back again and the alternative music fans were very happy about it. But bass player and singer Evan Seinfeld is no longer a member of the band, because he left the band.

Actually, Lionheart should have been the support act, but their show got cancelled and a delay for the Biohazard show occurred. Usually, it has started on 7:30 PM.

But the band members about singer and guitar player Billy Graziadei, guitar player and singer Bobby Hambel, guitar player Scott Roberts and drummer Danny Schuler entered the stage on 9:00 PM.

“Vengeance is mine” was introduced as first track and opened the show. The fans in the front row started moshing, violent dancing or head banging right from the start. There was a great mood and Billy Graziadei was glad about the enthusiasm. Generally, the audience was very happy about the performance and celebrated every single song and created a mosh pit in front of the stage.

Well, Billy played a show in Germany a few days before and the people over there didn’t go crazy like the Basel audience. That’s the reason why he made the ironic statement “Germany sucks – Switzerland rocks”. The audience appreciated this and praised him for it. The standing ovations made him smile.

The focus was on the songs from their current record “Reborn in defiance”, but there was enough space for old school kick ass tracks like “Urban Discipline”, “Tales from the Hard Side” and “Five Blocks to the Subway”. Guitar player and singer Bobby Hambel, who wore a bandana impressed with his guitar skills, but he also wore a Carnivore T-shirt. That’s a nice gesture, because he keeps Pete Steele’s legacy alive (the former Carnivore and Type O’ Negative singer, who died of a heart failure on April 14 2010).

Merchandise sales person Dani had B-day and therefore the band and the audience sung “happy Birthday” to make her feel good. She liked this and said “thank you”.

A dozen fans could get on stage before the last track “Hold My Own” got played. These guys rocked with the band and one fan put Billy Graziadei on his shoulders toward the ceiling. He came very close to the mirror ball on the ceiling.

The show ended after 60 minutes and Billy Graziadei grabbed the mic before they left the stage and commemorated Adam Yauch (a member of the hiphop group Beastie Boys, who died of salivary gland cancer at the age of 47) with a “R.I.P MCA” statement. After that, Beastie Boys music pumped out the speakers.

IT'S HOT IN THE CITY.

„It’s hot in the city“ ist eine Textzeile aus dem gleichnamigen Song von Punkrocklegende Billy Idol. Diese Aussage passt, denn der Sommer ist in Basel angekommen.

Mittlerweile sind 10 Jahre vergangen seit die legendäre Hardcore Institution Biohazard aus Brooklyn, New York in der Stadt Basel ein Konzert gegeben hat. Nun war es wieder soweit und die alternativen Musikfans freuten sich darüber. Was einfach fehlt ist Bassist & Gitarrist Evan Seinfeld, der seinen Dienst quittiert hatte.

Eigentlich hätten die Amerikaner Lionheart als Vorgruppe auftreten sollen, aber ihr Auftritt wurde abgesagt und deshalb wurde der Auftritt von Biohazard von ursprünglich 19:30 Uhr nach hinten verlegt.

Um 21 Uhr war es dann soweit und Sänger und Gitarrist Billy Graziadei, Gitarrist und Sänger Bobby Hambel, Gitarrist Scott Roberts und Schlagzeuger Danny Schuler betraten die Bühne.

Mit „Vengeance is mine“ wurde das Konzert eröffnet und von Beginn weg wurde vor der Bühne gemosht, Violent Dancing praktiziert oder man liess die Matte kreissen. Es herrschte eine tolle Stimmung und Billy Graziadei zeigte sich sehr erfreut über den Publikums Enthusiasmus. Generell war das Publikum hoch erfreut über die Performance und ging bei jedem Song mit was dazu führte, dass sich vor der Bühne ein Schlachtfeld auftat.

Weil Billy einige Tage zuvor in Deutschland gespielt hatte und das Publikum dort weniger abging als in Basel, brachte er den ironischen Seitenhieb „Germany sucks – Switzerland rocks“. Dafür wurde er vom Publikum hochgelebt und bekam zahlreichen Applaus was ihm ein Lächeln entlockte.

Das Hauptaugenmerk lag vor allem bei Songs vom aktuellen Album „Reborn in Defiance“, aber auch Old School Gassenhauer wie „Urban Discipline“, „Tales from the hard side“ und „Five blocks to the subway“ fanden ihren Weg in die Setlist. Gitarrist und Sänger Bobby Hambel mit Kopftuch tat sich nicht nur mit seinen Gitarrensolos hervor, sondern auch wegen dem Carnivore T-Shirt, welches er an diesem Abend trug. Eine tolle Geste das Vermächtnis vom verstorbenen Pete Steele (Ex-Carnivore und Type O Negative Sänger, der am 14.April 2010 wegen einem Herzfehler von uns gegangen ist) zu bewahren.

Weil die Merchandise-Verkäufern Dani an diesem Tag Geburtstag hatte, kam sie in den Genuss eines Happy Birthday Ständchens von der Band und dem Publikum. Sie war darüber froh und sagte „thank you“.

Bevor mit „Hold My Own“ der letzte Song gespielt wurde, durften zahlreiche Fans auf die Bühne und mit der gesamten Band abrocken. Zum Dank wurde Billy Graziadei von einem Fan auf den Schultern getragen und kam der Discokugel an der Decke gefährlich nahe.

Nach 60 Minuten war Schluss und bevor Biohazard die Bühne verliessen, griff sich Billy nochmals das Mikro und gedankte mit „R.I.P MCA“ dem kürzlich verstorbenen Beastie Boys Mitglied Adam Yauch (der im Alter von 47 Jahren den Kampf gegen Speicheldrüsenkrebs verloren hatte). Daraufhin dröhnte deren Musik aus den Lautsprechern.
