"Lovedeath77"
Questo cd credo proprio che difficilmente non rientrerà
nella mia top list 2002! Signori che cd!!!!!!! Se il cd d'esordio
"Still in the grey...." era più orientato verso un
black-gothic ove le due influenze si intrecciavano in ogni song,
stavolta i nostri danno sfoggio di una grande apertura orientata
verso molti generi musicali e "Cumbersome"
è il risultato di una evoluzione davvero strepitosa, e questo album è
consigliato a tutti coloro che nel metal cercano forti emozioni
all'interno di song ben articolate e influenzate da molti stili. La vocalist
Robi è davvero strepitosa e rappresenta il lato etereo del gruppo; la
sua timbrica è davvero fantastica!!! Allora le 10 perle di questo cd
inziano con "Rawish" che inizia
un pò cyber e prosegue con la voce di Robi sorretta da uno spettacolare
riffing guitar e le scream vocal a fare da contorno, il ritornello è
davvero da brivido, ....signori è solo l'inizio!!!!
La successiva "Frontloader"
è davvero STUPENDA! Immaginate...un riff nu-metal-death, atmosfera
Gothic, voce femminile eterea e scream, il tutto condito da una band che
suona strepitosamente non lasciando nulla al caso; la durezza di questo
pezzo si intreccia ad una melodia che solo ascoltandola si può capire
cosa significa provare emozioni con una canzone!
La successiva "Dogma"
è UN'ALTRA PERLA DAVVERO!!!!! Mi ha ricordato tantissimo i LACUNA COIL
"MIGLIORI" e la voce di Robi, qui davvero non teme nessun
rivale; le chitarre di Ivan e Jones, si intrecciano alla grande, mentre
le tastiere creano atmosfera davvero tenebrosa, e poi...quando meno te
lo aspetti ecco le scream vocals!!! E sono assolutamente perfette
riescono anche in un brano molto cadenzato e triste a dare quel quid in
più di atmosfera!
La grande sorpresa del cd è proprio la cover
degli Heroes Del Silencio "Entre dos tierras",
che è stata riveduta e corretta e trasformata a dovere in una potente
gothic-metal song!!!
"In Absentia Christi"
sembra proprio un perfetto incrocio tra Crematory, Dimmu Borgir e Lacuna
Coil(nel ritornello), addirittura all'interno della stessa song c'è una
parte nu-metal, con tastiera cyber ........credetemi davvero stupenda!!!!
"Overcast Sky"
è meno dura della precedente ma le coordinate sono più o meno le
stesse!!!
La title-track "Cumbersome"
inizia con un suono sintetizzato..e poi... ecco il riffin'guitar, come
sempre di quelli che non si scordano, la potenza della canzone si
incontra con la dolcezza della vocalist Robi che non sbaglia un colpo!!!
La grande bravura degli Evenfall è quella di utilizzare 2 tipi di
scream;uno a là Dimmu Borgir, cioè molto graffiante e maligno e
uno più vicino alla voce di Felix ovvero cantante degli ormai sciolti (purtroppo) Crematory.
Ancora atmofera con "Vangelis
Mundi" dove il gruppo unisce un gran senso melodico unito a
una tecnica strepitosa e una capacità di dare dinamica alle canzoni
davvero unica.
"Unworshipped"
ci mostra come Ivan e Jones sono dei grandi e inesauribili inventori di
riff che si stampano in testa al primo ascolto, e le non mancano assoli
davvero ricchi di groove e tecnica!!!
Chiude il cd "Cospectu
Mortis II" ...un'altra grande song, dura e atmosferica.
So che la mia recensione è a senso unico, ma
se dovessi dare un voto darei 10, senza dubbio .BUY OR DIE!!!!!!!!

| Questions: is there a really good modern-oriented gothic metal? Is there the possibility to fill up that kind of empty space that a band like Crematory has left in the metal scene, obtaining if possible even a better result? In my opinion here it is the
3 words enthusiastic answer: the Italian Evenfall!. Evenfall's debut record was released in 1999, the title was "Still in the Grey Dying" and was promoted throughout Europe. But there is a big difference between those Even fall and the curent band: some changes in the line-up have brought to a valuable evolution. Less black metal and more gothic one, with the addition of modern sound- effects from keyboards, heavy super cool guitars, versatile riffs , atmospheric, energetic songs, with catchy but not too easy melodies, and the contrast between the almost angelic female voice and the growls and screams of the male one are the characteristics of these "new" Evenfall. Though the influences of their roots which go back to Avant-garde Black are still to be found , they are so well merged with typical gothic metal elements, made absolutely up-to-date cause they are supported by modern, well measured electronics. Roberta is less aggressive than Cristina Scabbia, her voice is sweet, smart and ethereal but not fragile, on the contrary Ansgar's voice is aggressive and strong and his vocals range from very deep impressive growls to screams à la Dimmu Borgir. Guitars are implacable when they want. In a few words, Evenfall combine with sensational result the strength of the Heavy, united to the dark, gloomy etereal beauty of the Gothic. All this is simply my cup of blood, and though I don't rate (not yet...!!),
I agree 300% with Lovedeath77: successful with full marks. In their genre, they have prepared a super album.
All 10 songs are really awsome, among them one, the title -track "Cumbersome", simply kills, it kicks ass with its perfect loops, its heavy and almost hypnotic riffs, its dark melody which suggests an optimal alternation of the 2 vocals. "Entre dos Tierras" is the cover of the hit-single composed years ago by Heroes Del Silencio. In my very humble opinion, really far from being a "lack of respect" like unfortunately I 've read somewhere, it is on the contrary, at my eyes, a good cover which gives to the original song another flavour. Clear that the first time you listen to it, having the original so good in mind, you can fin that it sounds strange, what do you expect? A cover to be a clone? After a couple of more listens, anyway, one gets totally in it, understanding how much it "gothically" sadly rocks. Let's not forget the presence of ex-Psychotic Waltz Devon Graves as guest vocalist.
"Rawish" is strong and energetic with an almost mid-tempo tormenting proceeding and a sad and catchy refrain; atmospheric and sometimes unusual back electronics go in clear foreground only in the beginning and in the final of the song. "In Absentia Christi" is faster and guitars really run. Ansgar offers here his whole vocal range; only just a little bit experimental , it sounds mostly fresh.
"Unworshipped" is not easy but very interesting, it is a song which even doom death fans should like.
Particularly nocturnal but also metropolitan, without being too gloomy but sounding somehow cold, rather slow but intense, melodically catchy, very beautiful in his modern sadness, "Dogma" is mostly sung by Roberta, with an interval where Ansgar is more speaking than singing, in German. Not so heavy as other tracks, it sounds heavy, so heavy, anyway. Damn I like it so much!! Beginning with a kind of futuristic distorced effect, "Frontloader" turns very soon into another dark and sad gothic track, which has a valuable tempo changing. Another beautiful song combining heaviness, electronics , ethereal grace and a tormenting melody.
