Essential irreverent insurrection.

Accordingly to the old school Black Metal fans, BM has to be raw, marcescent, rotten and obscure. The sound of  "True Norwegian Black Metal: live in Grieghallen" is expression of this faith. The sound (quality) is so dirty, sick  and virulent (anyway better after the first song) like the  90's old school commands. Anyway there is also so much clarity in these Gorgoroth's compositions. Clarity and quality. Beyond the "Antichrist" album signature (Bergtrollets hevn , Possessed (by Satan) ) in Gorgoroth too traces of the inhuman and mysterious VON are so evident and surface above all from drumming, in those moments when drums  deliver dry patterns. Nonetheless the melodic skeleton is much more developed with good melodic passages and variation in rhythms that smooth a bit  that plateau of acrid evilness, typical of Gorgoroth. The songs presented in this CD, that lasts exactly 31:10 minutes, are not so usual to be heard from Gorgoroth, therefore this release  is a great occasion like no other for all fans of the band and for those who appreciate the malevolent roots of the genre.

Evilness and darkness are praised not only by the tracks but also from the sequence through which these songs are articulated. For example  the rich, vital, somehow epic Unchain my Heart is the right change after the intense monochromatic angry Possessed (by Satan). Although the band is very controversial, and in spite of some negative critics, i am firmly convinced that  this cd, recorded in the Grieghallen Studio,  should be heard and interpretated for what this kind of music  is. Besides, we don't deal with a canonic "live" from a festival or a club (therefore no audience atmosphere), yet we can perceive what  a performance from a studio means, which is quite fascinating as all those who had the possibility to attend live a studio record can confirm. And, although plagued by their arguments, Gaahl and band founder Infernus together deliver an explosive timbre (without King !?!) . Interesting may be exploring deeper  the matter  that  Infernus governed bass and guitar.

I think that the meaning of this  release is action and attraction for those who would like to make acquaintance with the underground roots of Black Metal.

Opened by the felinity and dementia of Bergtrollets hevn (Antichrist), this cd will devour tremolos and blastbeats as well as dry and linear percussion with involving tempo changes as in Destroyer (Destroyer), particularly punishing, varied in the guitar distortion and Death tainted.

Provocative and violent yet essential and  irresistible, as in The Rite of infernal Invocation or scary dark as in the growly Forces of Satan Storms , True Norwegian Black Metal let heaven fall perniciously on us just using the many nuances of old school Black Metal architecture. As mentioned before, occasionally even Death, Thrash and Doom tainted. 30 minutes of good essential irreverent insurrection.
