LABYRINTH:  Interview with Roberto Tiranti

Salvo: Hy Roberto!!! May you introduce your band....supposing that it needs!

Roberto: Who are Labyrinth? We’re simply a band formed by 6 people that want to enjoy themselves ...trying also to give emotions to the other people, de-dramatizing the rigorous metal world!

Don't you think that it's a destiny's sign that Labyrinth are getting a good success just now that you're the singer? What’s changed since then?

There were been many coincidences; In my opinion If the singer would have been Fabio Lione, The band would have had about the same success; My presence has changed something concerning the vocal approach, that is very far from what people think...very far from metal style.

Without Olaf Thorsen as main composer, the other musicians(Andrea Cantagalli, Andrea De Paoli and you, of course!)  may bring to the light their composition’s ability...Do you agree if I say that it is sufficient in order to create an album like your latest one?

You aren't wrong! In my opinion into a band everyone must give his support and his creativity! We’re all musicians , and every member gets his personal tastes and different characters; We're here, all together in order to give a perfect sound to the band. Our band gets a little of ourselves, keeping united its soul!

What do you think about Italian metal scene? How is it purposing in the European metal music market?

There are some good valid musicians, but not such good ideas. Most of them try to follow a trend and so that they don't give a real value to the composition’s authenticity. Concerning European music-market I don't know it very well......

Now, I want to know your opinion about Nu-metal, and moreover an opinion about the recovery of that typically 80's melody...

Nu metal.....why no? There some good valid ideas and It would be sufficient  to lend an ear and to give a careful listening to the compositions in order to give an objective judgment.

In 80's, bands took inspiration by 60's melodies, in 90's bands tries to recover 70's charm and now we're recovering 80's melodies...these are cycles that are repeated, but it’s important to not say that a certain kind of melodic approach is something new!

Considering that you're one of the best Italian singer, what can you suggest to the beginner singer, and how a person can bring out its hidden talent?

I thank you for your compliments but at the moment I think to be the best singer of my palace in which there are only 4 apartments and one of them is no rented!...Vocalist talent is something that you have inside since you born,  and if you notice it after some years is only because you didn't realize it! However it's important to give the top engagement and to believe in this profession.

Which live performances you remember in particular...and where would you sing again?

I've a very pleasant remembrance of south-American tour in 2000, but also gods of metal in 1999. I hope to repeat these two experiences!

What can you tell me about a song as "When I will fly far" a very atipic  but sensual song that begins like a Sting-song and with a very emotional charm....

This is the result of which I said before...In this song the band shows all the synergy we fell inside in order to compose a song. For the most part That song has been composed by Andrea De Paoli that puts in evidence all his electronic influences! My contribution concerns my way to express the melody!

Tell me about The Ramses that lives in you, How the “10 commandments" musical experience has been…? Considering that you played as main protagonist?

I found it very interesting, this experience gave me a lot of stimuli considering that it's something completely different for me...This experience has been very important both under musical and scenic aspect...Moreover I say that the my way to sing was very suitable for the character I played.

I know that you're the producer of a Sicilian band called "THE OPERA", what can you tell me about them? Why the decision to become a producer?

Listening to their demo I noticed that it won't be hard to obtain a very good work, They have very good ideas and a big enthusiasm! The decision to be a producer is due to my passion for the recording-room atmosphere and my love for the songs that are composed in a moment of inspiration....I hope to do a good work!

I ask you an opinion about Gandolfo Ferro(The opera singer)...what do you think about his as human and technical aspect as well? Considering you're an expert, may you describe his skills?

Gandolfo gets an extremely sensibility and tenancy as well...I know him since 1999..In That time I met him at Villarosa, (that is the place in which he lives) for a NEW TROLLS's concert. His human qualities are reflected on his delicate and agreeable voice that gets a strong timbre when it needs! I know his good teacher Giuseppe Urzi, that I'm sure will take him to the best performances!

As the last question, our typical last question, we present to the band we interview for the first time-the game of the tower! You are on a big high tower and there are three bands, you have to push down two of them, saving the third one, for you there are:

Queensryche, Judas Priest, Metallica!

No!!!You can't ask me it!!!!!:) it would be as if you ask me who's the most beautiful woman among Bellucci, Cucinotta and Folliero!!!..Ok..My favourite are Queensryche But I can't but admit that Metallica and Judas Priest are two important inspirations for many people, and for me too!!!!

Presenta al nostro sito la tua band...(ammesso che ce ne sia bisogno)

Chi sono i Labyrinth? semplicemente un gruppo formato da 6 persone che hanno voglia di divertirsi cercando di divertire sdrammatizzando a volte il rigido schema del metal.

Non ti sembra un segno del destino che i Labyrinth abbiano conosciuto la proprio consacrazione a grande band proprio con Roberto Tiranti dietro il microfono?cosa è cambiato con il tuo arrivo?

Ci sono state una serie di concomitanze,credo che se al posto mio fosse rimasto Fabio Lione il gruppo avrebbe avuto pressoché le stesse conferme,con me sono cambiate alcune cose nel senso che il mio approccio è stato molto meno scontato di quanto alcuni pensano,lontano da certi stereotipi legati al genere.

Senza Olaf Thorsen nelle vesti di principale compositore sono emersi a mio parere altri Songwriter , come Andrea Cantarelli e Andrea De Paoli oltre a Te...sei d'accordo se dico che questo basta per potersi aspettare un disco come "Labyrinth"?

Non sbagli affatto,credo che in una band si debba dare spazio alla creatività di tutti, sono i musicisti con i loro gusti e caratteri a dare un?identità e un suono ben preciso. Infatti Labyrinth ha dentro di se un po’ di tutti noi mantenendo integra l’anima del gruppo

 Cosa ne pensi della scena metal italiana, e come si sta imponendo nel mercato europeo?

Ci sono molti ottimi musicisti molte bands ma non altrettante buone idee sono quasi tutti troppo impegnati a seguire un trend che impoverisce la genuinità ; per quanto riguarda il mercato europeo non volermene ma ne so veramente poco!!!

Il tuo parere sul nu-metal...e poi voglio anche la tua opinione sul recupero di quella melodia tipicamente 80's

Nu metal direi??. perché no?credo ci siano buone cose pure li basterebbe imparare ad ascoltare e giudicare in modo obbiettivo. Negli 80 si guardava ai 60 nei 90 ai 70 in questo decennio stanno tornando gli 80,sono cicli che si ripetono periodicamente,non ci trovo nulla di male anzi!!!!l,a cosa importane e non spacciare certe cose per novità!

Essendo te uno dei più grandi cantanti italiani...cosa consigli ai neofiti del canto e come si ci scopre cantanti?

Ti ringrazio di cuore per ora mi sento il più grande cantante del mio palazzo che ha solo quattro appartamenti di cui uno sfitto eh eh!cantanti di solito si nasce raramente uno ci diventa,e se lo scopre avanti negli anni è comunque perché lo era già e non se né accorto prima? comunque bisogna sempre e comunque faticare impegnarsi a fondo e crederci.

Quali sono stati le live performance più esaltanti e dove vorresti tornare a esibirti?

Ho bellissimi ricordi del tour sudamericano(2000)e del gods 1999,spero di ripetere entrambe le situazioni.

Che mi dici di una Canzone come "When I will fly far" davvero atipica ma quanto mai sensuale con un inizio un pò alla Sting e con un'evoluzione davvero emozionante!?

È il frutto di ciò di cui ti parlavo prima,cioè la sinergia di tutto il gruppo nel comporre. Quel brano in particolare è in gran parte opera di Andrea De Paoli che ha potuto dare sfogo alla sua ?vena?elettronica,io ci ho messo il mio modo di vedere la melodia ed ecco il pezzo!

Parlami del Ramses che vive in te,com'è stata l'esperienza di essere un assoluto protagonista dei "I dieci Comandamenti"?

è stato molto stimolante potersi mettere in discussione in un contesto differente,mi ha aiutato a crescere sia musicalmente che scenicamente. Fra l’altro la vocalità richiesta per quel personaggio non era poi così distante dalla mia quindi il divertimento è stato tanto.

Ho Saputo che sarai il produttore artistico dei siciliani "The Opera" cosa mi dici di loro? e come mai la scelta di produrre un gruppo?

Dal loro demo ho intuito che non sarà difficile ottenere notevoli risultati,hanno idee veramente valide accompagnate dall’entusiasmo di chi vuole dare il meglio.

La scelta di produrli nasce dalla mia passione nello stare in studio e vedere nascere un lavoro dal niente,spero di fare un buon lavoro!!!!!!!

Ti chiedo un parere; io conosco Gandolfo Ferro( Cantante dei The Opera nda.)...che te ne pare di lui Come Uomo prima e come Cantante Poi; da esperto potresti descrivermi le sue doti Vocali?

Gandolfo è una persona estremamente sensibile e tenace,(l?ho conosciuto al suo paese a Villarosa nell’agosto del 1999 in occasione di un concerto dei New Trolls) doti umane che si riflettono nella sua voce,morbida e gradevole nel timbro ma decisa e compatta quando serve,fra l’altro so che è seguito da un bravissimo insegnante (Giuseppe Urzì)che sicuramente lo porterà a livelli tecnici di grande livello.

Come ultima domanda ...c'è la nostra tipica domanda di chiusura...Il gioco della torre! Sei su una torre e ci sono tre bands....due le devi buttar giù salvandone solo UNA!!! Per te ci sono: METALLICA QUEENSRYCHE JUDAS PRIEST 

Non puoi farmi questo!!!! Sarebbe come dire…..chi scarti fra la Bellucci,la Cucinotta e la Fogliero come cazzarola si fa!!! Vabbè i miei preferiti sono i Quensryche ma non potrei mai fare a meno di Judas e Metallica,grandi maestri dai quali tutti hanno attinto a piene mani!!!!
