Hymn to desolation..

What i'm about  to review is the album of a  Norwegian one-man-band which plays dark and depressive black metal.  "Factotum"and mastermind  is Nerrath, creator and performer of the whole music contained in this hymn to  desolation.  

The band, born in 2007, comes out  after the publication,  in the same year, of a limited demotape called "Bergmanden/Pfade aus dem Leben". The present work is entitled "The narrow Path" and comprehends 5 very long tracks which dilate for 45 minutes of melancholy, sad and suicidal mood music.....  

A lot of bands of the international scene have tried to compose in this style that succeeds in  uniting  Black Metal to the depressive/Doom, with a careful eye to the  leading melody that  follows all the tracks in order to not  make them excessively boring and repetitive. Also in that case, we are in presence of  music that transudes pain from all the notes. It seems you fall in the void and in the desolation  while listening to the  songs contained in the cd.

No light and no hope in the first track "The Vaultventurer". 10 minutes of pure depressive black metal.  

 Instead one remains deeply affected by  the second song that fishes to full hands from the classical raw black metal in order to get back, in the middle of the  song, to that dark depressing abyss of the  most dismal and sad doom .

The album goes on in this way:  alternating and  melting in egregious way these two styles and creating an enough satisfactory work, under many points of view. One can perceive in fact, without any doubt, that Nerrath`s technical abilities  are  good enough to be able to catch all instruments  getting something valid "out of them"  . The interlacements of guitar between clean arpeggios and dilated distortions create the correct atmosphere, and the carpets of synth  makes  everything very melancholy and sometimes "dramatic."

The  voice alternates the classical scream with some clean parts that don't annoy. 

Finally, the production totally belongs to  the average of this genre, without adding a lot . The sounds are good even if a   less "bare" production  would have perhaps  benefited more  to the music.

In conclusion, this "The narrow Path" surely represents a good beginning for the band and many estimators of the genre could find interesting this proposal.

We wish  Lichts Erlischt  a good continuation in the trip through the dark meanders of depression and pain…

Inno alla desolazione.

Quella che mi appresto a recensire è one man band Novegese di oscuro e depressive black metal.

Il tuttofare è Nerrath, creatore ed esecutore di tutta la musica contenuta in questo inno alla desolazione.

La band nata nel 2007 esce allo scoperto dopo la pubblicazione di un solo demo (Bergmanden/Pfade aus dem Leben) uscito in tape limitata nel 2007.

Il disco è intitolato “The narrow Path” e conta di 5 brani molto lunghi e dilatati per 45 minuti di musica malinconica, triste e dal mood suicida…

Molte band della scena internazionale si sono  cimentate in questo stile che riesce ad unire il Black Metal al depressive/doom con un occhio sempre attento alla melodia di fondo che segue tutti i brani per non renderli eccessivamente noiosi e ripetitivi.

Anche qui si tratta di musica che trasuda dolore da tutte le note. Sembra di cadere nel vuoto e nella desolazione ascoltando le songs contenute nel cd.

Nessuna luce e nessuna speranza nella prima traccia intitolata “The Vaultventurer”. 10 minuti di puro depressive black metal.

Si rimane colpiti invece dalla seconda song che pesca a piene mani dal classico raw black metal per poi tornare nell’oscuro abisso deprimente del doom più tetro e triste arrivati alla sua metà.

Il disco continua in questo modo ad alternare e fondere in maniera egregia questi due stili creando un lavoro abbastanza soddisfacente da piu punti di vista. Si sente infatti senza ombra di dubbio che le capacità tecniche di Nerrath sono abbastanza buone per poter prendere in mano tutti gli strumenti e tirarne fuori qualcosa di valido. Gli intrecci di chitarra tra arpeggi puliti e distorsioni dilatate creano la giusta atmosfera e i tappeti di synth rendono il tutto molto malinconico e a volte “drammatico”.

La voce alterna al classico scream delle parti in pulito che non guastano.

La produzione infine si staglia nella media del genere senza aggiungere molto. I suoni sono buoni anche se una produzione meno “spoglia” in alcune parti forse avrebbe giovato di piu alla musica.

In definitiva, questo “The narrow Path” rappresenta sicuramente un buon inizio per la band e molti estimatori del genere troveranno interessante la proposta dei nostri.

Auguriamo ai Licht Erlischt una buona continuazione nel viaggio attraverso gli oscuri meandri della depressione e del dolore…
