I see Tom Angelripper and his boys in front of me. Pessimist
is a Thrash Metal Band from Weil am Rhein, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany.
They got founded in August 2006 by Michael Schweitzer, Patrick Pfefferle
and their guitar player Robin back then. They could make themselves a
name with a strong live performance and many concerts in Germany with a
couple of shows in Switzerland. Their
debut “Call to War” was issued last year by the band. The record was
mixed in the Iguana Studio with Christoph Brandes. It got issued by the record label Firefield Records in 2011. The record starts with the opening track “Trommelfeuer” and shows no mercy. A straight kick ass track. “The
Massacre of Nanking” reminds me a little bit of Sacred Reich. The
arrangements and the lyrics got an influence from this Thrash Metal
legend and the groove part in this song is incredible. “Infernal
Death” is another kick ass track with background shouts from the
Guitar players Patrick Pfefferle and Richard Beck. Singer Michael
Schweitzer shows his strong thrash vocals and kicks it together with
catchy guitar tunes from the rhythm fraction. This song contains a
slight 80’s Metallica influence. You recognize it when you hear the
guitar solo and look at the arrangement. “Prelude
(Arm for War)” is an Instrumental track and works perfectly as a
bridge to the next song. In
comparison to the previous tracks, “Call to War” starts slower. But
that’s no bad thing, because Michael Schweitzer shines at this song
with his powerful vocals and the mid tempo shows a new face. Here you can listen to the background shouts again. Personal
for me, it is pretty cool, because it got that New York Hardcore Vibe
from Pro Pain. “Son
of Satan” would have been a great suitable song for the German Thrash
Metal legend Sodom. If I close my eyes, I see Tom Angelripper and his
boys in front of me. It did not expect such a track! For real! “It’s
Time to fuck (with Hate)” starts with a spoken word intro before they
kick ass again! Here you hear some Slayer tunes in it, but Michael
Schweitzer and his guitar guys make a difference with vocals and tempo
variation. “Death
by Torture” and “Another Day In Mania” are the last songs on
“Call To War”. But the record contains a further hidden track where
you hear Michael Schweitzer saying “No, no”. I’m sure he was a
frustrated and disappointed, because something had gone wrong and he
could not believe it at that time. Sounds very funny and I am happy that
this funny outtake made it on the record. Pessimist
did a good
job with “Call to War”. I think we could become witnesses of a new
Thrash Metal legend, if they can maintain this level with upcoming
releases. 8/10 written by Dominic Latscha Dominic Latscha is reviewer for gryphonmetal.ch since 2010 He is based in Switzerland. 29.04.2011
