I was really excited to do a review on one of my favorite bands. Their sound is so innovative, melodic, powerful and always evolving. They improve on their formula with each release. This is one band doing something totally original. No one else sounds like them.
Now this band returns with a real energetic and frenetic album. Which seems
tighter and magnificently orchestrated as always. The sound of the new disk is a mixture of brain-grinding riffs, powerful diabolic and pure angelical vocals, keyboards, industrial and lots of atmospheric layers.
This production sounds perfect. Each instrument has a crystal sound. Everything is nice and clean, but without loosing the apocalyptic edge. Some sound effects here and there. The transitions are flawless. From mid-paced riffs, wicked keyboards, female vocals and killer lead guitar to crushing double-bass, and of course Jörgen Sandström infernal vocals.
Talking about the Mr. Jörgen vocal approach; you can easily say that he is one of the best metal vocalists around. He performs high standard growling from hell. While delivering tons of dark lyrical content with lots of furious anger. On the other hand Jo performing her delicate, melancholic, angelic vocals. It creates a contrast which is intrinsic and epic.
This album features monster guitar riffs. Walls of guitars that fit perfectly with the mood in every song. The guitar's performance is much more technical and complex. I wasn't sure that they can create a better sound than the one they achieve on " Hate, Dominate, Congregate, Eliminate" which for me is one of the best metal disks ever made. But they did.
When you listen to the drums, it really seems that they have a real drummer. It is so well programmed.
The drums are blasting and realistic.
All tracks are excellent, killer. But I'll try to point some of my favorite moments:
"The Bleeding Eyes Of A Breeding Whore" its an outstanding moment on the disk filled with melody. An amazing song.
"Resurrected for Massive Torture" check the vocals on this one.
"Godslaughtering Murder Machine" Amazing and epic.
"Loveless, Godless, Flawless" a moment of peace in this sensorial war.
This is the best work the band has done to date. If you haven't hear them before this is a great opportunity to start. If you are a fan of the male/female vocals and love death metal, this band is for you. If you are already a fan of this band you already got it or you are on your way to the record store.
