Good enough to spread that energy.

Valkyrja is a pretty young formation that leaves with “The Invocation of Demise” its own mark on the black metal firmament. I honestly am pretty surprised about this album as I didn’t know the band before and as the cover (sorry for that) rather suggested a record of really bad quality. Well, “The Invocation of Demise” is a good album, with a production that fits to the music. Not too powerful and modern, but good enough to spread that energy and transparence that the songs deserve.

In my opinion, Valkyrja have been influenced by bands like Naglfar and Dissection, as the songs have almost always long blastbeat parts and the guitars play that typical cold but still melodic sound that is characteristic for this sort of bands. The quality of the songs is pretty high although the potential of Valkyrja is clearly higher as shown with this album. The intro for example is really majestical and very cool, as many riffs of the cd. But sometimes I would wish to encounter some more surprising moments and also a little more catchy riffs. Yet Valkyrja isn ‘t capable to create the mystical intensity of Dissection ‘s “Storm of the Light ‘s Bane” or the rage of Naglfar ‘s “Sheol”, but, in some parts, they really get very close to it, and this is meant to be a compliment.

Valkyrja are definitively on the right path, and with a little bit more of patience, application and focus on the topic moments of a song, the could be able to create exellent music. I hope to hear more of them in order to follow their improvements. The could become a really great band of a new blackmetallic generation.
