EX DEO

EX DEO, the new band
featuring KATAKLYSM frontman Maurizio Iacono, is
currently heavily at work on their debut album with producer/guitarist J-F
Dagenais.
Iacono recently started a weekly studio blog on the EX
DEO MySpace (www.myspace.com/exdeo)
which will last until mid-March.
READ BELOW FOR PART 2 OF THE STUDIO BLOG:
“I was actually able to get on a last minute flight [to Montreal, QC -
CANADA] last Friday and have been at JFD studios all
weekend. So far this has to be some of the greatest times in the studio
for me in a very long time. There are no limitations on what we can or
can’t do on this effort with the use of melodies and barbaric anthems.
On Saturday [February 21, 2009] I started at 10:00am with a famous cup of
coffee from Tim Hortons (If you live in Canada, you’ll know what I’m
talking about. They should open Tim Hortons all over the states,
especially in Chicago would be nice for me!).
Anyways, so we started with the track "Storm The Gates of
Alesia," one of my favorite's on the album which is about
the Gauls and Caesar’s Conquest. What a powerful song, the arrangements
are killer and the symphonic parts are on point, majestic and dark. I’ve
utilized different vocal types for EX DEO and have tested new waters; the
results have been surprisingly amazing.
Once I completed "Storm The Gates of Alesia,"
we jumped to a song titled “Surrender The Sun," a
story about a gladiator who knows that he’ll never be free, but
continues to fight because its all he’s got left. After reading into
this, I found out many people in Rome worshiped Gladiators and if one had
to die, the honorable way to go was in an arena. For me personally, I
would rather run the opposite way of a hungry lion or a seven foot giant,
but who knows how we all would think if we lived in those times, as the
life expectancy was between 20 and 30 years.
Back to Romulus: J-f Dagenais has significantly
advanced at producing records and with finding the right guitar tones. We
have a killer organic drum sound and he has been pushing me to the max.
I’m glad he is since I have to live up to the masterpiece these guys
have done and to the name of my Roman ancestors

KORPIKLAANI
Finnish folk metallers KORPIKLAANI
entered Petrax studio in Hollola, Finland on
February 15 to begin recording their sixth album, "Karkelo"
(English translation: "Pleasure" or "Party"),
tentatively due in June via Nuclear Blast Records.
Commented the band: "In a relaxed atmosphere we have been working
together to record the songs for the upcoming album, 'Karkelo'.
The recordings started in a beautiful rural environment at the famous Petrax
studio in Hollola. This studio is created in the buildings of a still
working farm of the Rappula family; who are farming
there since 1577.
"This studio is very well known, many worldwide famous bands record
here. When we entered the place, the booze smell of CHILDREN
OF BODOM, who just recorded their latest album here, hit our noses, we
ourselves only added a little to that.
"During last year, the homemade first versions of the songs were
spread among the band. Then we all rehearsed the songs together. In this
first week in the studio we played all songs again, and after listening to
the recordings we worked them over to adjust and improve them. Of course,
we want 'Karkelo' to be as good as it can be.
"Being in the Petrax studio really fitted to
the album title; it was such a pleasure to be there that it was a party in
itself. Not just the technical aspects were outstanding, but also the
excellent catering by Tiina, and the housing were
sheer pleasure. We always ended the recording days quite late, after which
we sometimes went to the sauna, or just stayed at the fireplace in a room
downstairs, where we ate and drank something and discussed the songs. We
felt so good here, that Hittavainen even stayed one
more day after we finished our stay there; he just was not able to say
goodbye to the good life there.
"Since the Petrax studio is housed in a
working farm, we were asked from time to time to lend a helping hand to
the farm work, which was a welcome change during the recordings. In the
recordings you can faintly hear the barking of the big farm dog Rolle,
and 'landlord' Petri Rappula driving on and off on
his tractor, which added a little more bass to Matson's
drums! It all added to the homely feelings and the atmosphere of the
songs. Not surprising that we are considering to go back to this studio
for every album from now. Jonne felt so well there,
that he dreams of buying a piece from their forests to built a house on,
if 'Karkelo' sales will afford that!
"The recordings are supervised by Aksu Hanttu,
who luckily is, besides a fine guy, very demanding, and he certainly
contributed to the improvements of the songs. Aksu
is the drummer of ENTWINE and since they have to
play gigs, we have to interrupt the recordings every now and then.
Therefore the recordings will take probably till the middle of March.
Afterwards the mixing will start, which will take about a week.
"The drums are fully recorded already. This week Jonne
started recording his guitar parts, followed by Cane
and then comes Jarkko's turn, and so on. The
traditional instruments are recorded last, just before the vocals.
"We changed to the Grooveland studio in Lahti
this week, because it is more convenient to go there during the short
intervals between the ENTWINE gigs."
Check out photos from the studio at this
location.

MIIKA TENKULA
Miika Tenkula, former lead
guitarist and main songwriter of the acclaimed Finnish band SENTENCED,
was found dead at his home earlier today (Thursday, February 19). He was
34 years old.
Nalle Österman (GANDALF, LULLACRY,
CHAOSBREED) tells BLABBERMOUTH.NET,
"It's true, confirmed personally by [former SENTENCED]
drummer Vesa Ranta.
"The fact remains that Miika had a serious
drinking problem for many years which escalated after SENTENCED
was buried. They don't call it King Alcohol for nothing...
"The metal scene in Finland mourns now for one of the most talented
metal guitarists to ever emerge from [the country]."
The official cause of Miika's death has not yet
been released.
SENTENCED's posthumous DVD, "Buried
Alive", was certified platinum last year in the band's native
Finland. The disc topped the official Finnish chart upon its release in
late 2006.
The former members of SENTENCED were presented with
the platinum award for "Buried Alive" on
August 14, 2008 at Century Media Records'
20th-anniversary party at the Tavastia club in Helsinki where ex-SENTENCED
singer Ville Laihiala's new band, POISONBLACK,
and labelmates NORTHER and KIVIMETSÄN
DRUIDI performed.
An e-card for "Buried Alive" DVD, which
captures the Finnish band's final performance in their hometown of Oulu,
Finland on October 1, 2005, can be accessed at this
location. The e-card features a full mock-up of the DVD menu and a
taste of "Buried Alive", including one
full live song as well as snippets from all chapters.
Directed by Mika Ronkainen of Klaffi
Productions, the two-disc set features the entire concert, including a
special guest appearance by former SENTENCED
vocalist Taneli Jarva.
SENTENCED's last-ever studio CD, aptly titled "The
Funeral Album", entered the Finnish national chart at position
No. 1 back in June 2005. The follow-up to 2002's "The
Cold White Light" was recorded primarily at Finnvox
and Tonebox studios (both in Finland), and mixed
and mastered at Finnvox. Producing the effort was Hiili
Hiilesmaa, who also worked with SENTENCED on
the group's previous two albums, 2000's "Crimson"
and "The Cold White Light".

EX DEO
EX DEO, the new band
featuring KATAKLYSM frontman Maurizio Iacono, is
currently heavily at work on their debut album with producer/guitarist J-F
Dagenais.
Iacono recently started a weekly studio blog on the EX
DEO MySpace (www.myspace.com/exdeo)
which will last until mid-March.
Every week the blog will also include a section called "Do
you know Rome?", that will give a historic fact about the
Roman Empire. Iacono offered the following update:
"The album is musically complete and tracking has been in the works
for the last few weeks. Drums are almost done and on Monday I fly to
Montreal to lay down the Roman law and track some vocals!
I’ve been a fan of history all of my life but the last few years I’ve
really been studying ancient Rome's rise and fall. I have to say it’s by
far the most impressive subject I’ve ever studied. I'm totally addicted
to it and its glory, its power, its weaknesses and its passion. I wanted
to do this project for many years, but was never ready and the timing was
all wrong. I never thought I could do it justice either but I'm ready now.
The urge finally took over and I feel its power calling me and almost
driving me crazy.
Now that I hear these symphonies created by my boys I’m so very proud of
what they have created. Now it’s my turn to do them justice!
I’ll be in the studio for the next two weeks tracking vocals and working
on the arrangements. This is much more complex then anything we have done
with KATAKLYSM. It’s super challenging and it has opened new doors for
us as songwriters. I will give everyone an update on how things are
progressing shortly."

VILE
Colin Davis,
founding member and songwriter of Californian brutal death metallers VILE,
has announced the unveiling of his own record label, Ninth
Underworld Records. The label's first release will be the
as-yet-untitled fourth album from VILE. Remixed and
remastered reissues of past VILE offerings will
follow shortly afterwards in applicable territories.
Commented Davis: "After an extensive and
unsatisfying search for a new label partner for VILE,
I realized that the universe was making a clear statement to me. It was
not only in the best interests of the band and myself, but it was in the
best interests of the extreme metal world as a whole that I do this. We
are leaving the time of centralized power and the music industry is vastly
affected. Now is the time for independent bands and entrepreneurs to take
control of their own musical destiny. I feel that I can do this job with
more care and more intent than anybody else. True, I do not have the
industry connections or money that a big label has, but I can focus
clearly and constantly exactly where I need to and that is what will make
this label work."
VILE's European street team leader, Kevin
Rymen of Belgium, has partnered up with Davis
and is hard at work establishing industry contacts and business partners. Ninth
Underworld is seeking distribution options in all countries and
territories as well as possible licensing deals. Interested parties may
contact Colin Davis or Kevin
Rymen through the label's MySpace
page.
Davis claims that the new album will be VILE's
most musically diverse. "I remember all of my favorite albums being
quite varied in the musical styles that were incorporated," he says.
"All of the great British, German and American bands had many
different types of songs on their albums. Recently, that has stopped and
we want to bring that diversity back to metal. Just like in real life, we
have songs for different moods that capture many emotions. We are an
extreme metal band, but that doesn't mean we have to play one type of song
over and over."
Video footage of the drum-recording sessions can be viewed below.
VILE's new CD will be the follow-up to "The
New Age of Chaos", which was released in North America in October
2005 via Unique Leader Records.

MOONSTONE PROJECT
MOONSTONE
PROJECT – signs
worldwide deal with BLISTERING RECORDS
Blistering
Records is thrilled to announce the worldwide signing of Italian based
classic rock supergroup, Moonstone
Project & their dynamic bluesy new release, Rebel
On The Run!
It
features the amazing voice of James
Christian (House Of Lords)
on all but one track. That 11th track happens to be "Closer Than You
Think," a soulful original written & performed by the voice of
rock himself, Glenn Hughes (Deep
Purple/Black Sabbath)!
On
the spontaneous creation of the Hughes cut, Moonstone founder/guitarist Matt
Filippini recalls:
"Closer
Than You Think is a beautiful gift from Glenn. He wrote that magical piece
while I was at his house in LA. We were watching TV in his living
room & suddenly he ran into his studio, picked up his guitar
& 5 minutes later the song was born!"
This
vibe of immediate cosmic generation permeates the album, though with 2
years of blood sweat & tears in the production, no detail was left
unpolished on this labour of love.
While
the predecessor to this release, Hidden
In Time has become a re-issued collectible favorite in the neo-classic
rock underground that album related more the "Project" part of
the group's name, with 10 different singers & 20 musicians
collaborating! Rebel
On The Run has an intentionally more consistent "band"
feel. But fret not, there are still plenty of stunning guest appearances
from hard rock royalty Ian
Paice (DEEP PURPLE)
& Clive Bunker (JETHRO
TULL) on drums to legendary Hammond organ maestro, Ken
Hensley (Uriah Heep)
adding his distinct, wild keyboard flourishes! Lead vocalist James
Christian's wife, solo artist Robin
Beck also layers many unique backing vocals into the colorful
fabric of this warm recording.
The
masterminds behind the ambitious operation are guitarist Matt
Filippini & his co-writing/producing studio wizard keyboardist, Alessandro
Del Vecchio. The music is solidified by the powerful
Moonstone bassist Nik Mazzucconi,
U.D.O. drummer Francesco
Jovino, live drummer, Alex
Mori & backing singer Roberto
Tiranti (Labyrinth).
Spring
& summer concerts to support the album are already being announced
starring Glenn Hughes as
well as a festival & fall tour featuring former Rainbow/Yngwie
Malmsteen crooner, Doogie
White! Traditional hard
rock fans throughout the world are in for a treat, both on their stereos
& in concert halls this year from the non-traditional, monster
collaborative Moonstone Project!
Already
home to albums by Project alum Glenn
Hughes & House Of
Lords as well as melodic rock contemporaries, Joe
Lynn Turner, Starbreaker, Michael Kiske & many more - the quickly
rising label, Blistering Records
is the ideal home for this stellar, all-star cast! Keep your ear out
for more exciting news on Moonstone
Project as Rebel
On The Run approaches its late May release.

GODS OF METAL 2009
da Live
"DATE:
I minuti a
Judas Priest, Guns n' Roses , Slayer e Ozzy Osbourne, poteva farsi
mancare il meglio del metal mondiale? La risposta è no, e quindi ecco i
primi nomi confermati:
Sabato
27 Giugno
arrivato Martyr!
L'opening sarà invece annunciato a breve
E veniamo al R-Stage che vedrà
protagonisti nella veste di headliner The Saints Of Los Angeles,
proprio loro: MOTLEY CRUE ! Vince, Nikki, Tommy e Mick
però sarà totalmente differente a quello visto in America.
annunciate a breve
Domenica
28 Giugno
Headliner della seconda giornata sul L-
Stage saranno i Kings Of Prog, con il nuovo album, DREAM
THEATER !
Words.
No,
non poteva. E quindi: CYNIC !!!
A grande

SUSPERIA
London: Candlelight today confirms the worldwide
signing of Susperia. Currently finishing work on their fifth album,
the band recently announced a string of early spring UK dates that will
kick off what is expected to be a busy year for the popular Norwegian
metal band. “Ten years and still the same five guys,” exclaims
vocalist Athera of the band’s long commitment to their music.
“We have worked nearly two years on this material, perfecting it for
your pleasure and our devoted fans. It will take you back to the
early days with melancholic riffing and dark emotional vocals.
It’s a perfect blend of everything Susperia has been and become.”
“A blend of thrash metal drawing on influences that include Sepultura,
Anthrax, and Testament,” says Allmusic.com of Susperia’s now highly
regarded sound. The popular music portal continues its early 2005
review noting “their songs are melodic yet intense and forceful, and
shredding guitars are the rule.” Formed in 1998 by drummer Tjodalv
(then of Dimmu Borgir) and guitarist Cyrus (then of Satyricon/Old Man’s
Child), the band released their debut, Predominance, via Nuclear Blast in
2001. The band’s much-acclaimed second album, Vindication,
followed in 2003. Signing with Norwegian-based Tabu Records (with
release in the US via Candlelight Records) in 2004, the band released
their third album, Unlimited, later that year. Brave Words Bloody
Knuckles called the album, “a scorcher from start to finish, on par with
Testament classic The Gathering.”
A powerful live act, the band has consistently remained focused to the
live arena. With numerous high profile support, headline and
festival appearances, one of the band’s most cherished experiences thus
far remains supporting the newly reformed Testament in late 2005.
The dates would culminate in the release of the band’s Norwegian
charting mini-album Devil May Care. Work on their fourth album, Cut
From Stone, would see out the end of the year. Unfortunately due to
financial constraints two tries to visit the US to support the Daniel
Bergstrand-produced album during 2007/08 would set back the album’s
overall sales target but the band remained committed. Touring
Europe, including numerous dates with W.A.S.P, the band’s ambitions
stayed and continue to remain in tact. “We now have the backing of
one label worldwide and this is going to make life easier for us,” says
bassist Memnock.
Susperia’s still untitled label debut is expected for release early
summer. Recorded in Norway it was mixed at Studio Fredman in Sweden.
Susperia currently includes guitarists Cyrus and Elvorn, bassist Memnock,
with drummer Tjodalv and vocalist Athera.

SAMAEL
After
two years of silence, legendary band SAMAEL from
Switzerland
is back with their new full length album „Above“! Expect a harsh
dissonance to the catchy and electronica-meets-metal approach of the
predecessor "Solar Soul". Harking back to the good old Black
Metal days of SAMAEL, the band`s ninth effort combines the extreme sounds
of the era 1994 – 1996 with sophisticated songwriting and unearthly
grooves. Produced by the band and mixed by the one and only Mr. Fredrik
Nordström (In Flames, Opeth, Arch Enemy), "Above" surely is the
most surprising and aggressive album in the whole SAMAEL discography! MP3
samples you can find here: http://www.myspace.com/samael

HATESPHERE
A new HATESPHERE song
entitled "Backstabber" is available for
streaming on the band's MySpace
page. The track comes off the Danish thrashers' new album, "To
The Nines",
which will be released via Napalm Records on the
following dates:
March 25 - Finland, Spain
March 27 - Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux, France, Italy, Sweden
March 30 - Rest of Europe
April 7 - USA, Canada
The CD was recorded over a nine-day period Antfarm
Studio in Aarhus, Denmark with producer Tue
Madsen (THE HAUNTED, MOONSPELL,
DARK TRANQUILLITY, GOREFEST).
The track listing for the album is as follows:
01. To The Nines
02. Backstabber
03. Cloaked In Shit
04. Clarity
05. Even If It Kills Me
06. Commencing A Campaign
07. The Writing's On The Wall
08. In The Trenches
09. Aurora
10. Oceans Of Blood
Check out the cover artwork below.
In a recent interview with Denmark's Antenna,
HATESPHERE guitarist Peter
"Pepe" Lyse Hansen stated about the band's forthcoming
album, "It wasn't difficult at all to make it sound like HATESPHERE,
as I have been making practically all the music on all HATESPHERE
albums — and have done so on this one as well. As on every other album
there are some small changes, some new territories to be explored. On
this one we have four new members, and that has obviously given us some
new input. This has proven to be healthy, as I feel that the album has a
new-found freshness and brutality. To have a new vocalist of course
changes the sound — but in a very positive manner. Joller
[Jonathan Albrechtsen] is way more aggressive
than Jacob was, and it simply fits the music
perfectly. We have worked hard on the lyrics and the vocal structures
this time — as never before — and it gives the whole album this
final touch that makes it sound, just the way our so-called comeback
album should sound. All in all, I will say the album is more aggressive
than its predecessor! I guess we felt we had to prove a lot on this one
— and on top of that, we simply just had a lot of aggression that
needed to be let out. So beware [laughs]! The album was recorded with Tue
Madsen at the Antfarm and Feedback
Studios in Aarhus, Denmark, in October 2008. We have known Tue
for a long time, and he has mixed our last two albums. We, therefore,
felt it naturally to make him do the whole package this time. Not only
is he a world-class producer but he is also extremely relaxed, and the
good thing for me is that he lives just around the corner [laughs]. I
think our rehearsals before the recordings paid off, as we were really
quick at the recordings. Bass and drums were recorded in three days all
together, and the whole album only took us 10 days. We therefore had
plenty of time for the mix. End of October everything was done."

KATAKLYSM
KATAKLYSM recently returned home from Mexico
after a sold out show at the Hard Rock Live in Mexico City on January 16,
2009. The performance marked the groups first appearance in the country
since 1995.
Commented vocalist Maurizio Iacono:
"Mexico blew our minds and was better than we ever expected! I’m so
glad we took this chance and went there. The crowd was hungry and I think
it was the loudest I’ve heard people chant our lyrics! We played songs
off everything from ‘Sorcery’ to the latest record Prevail and it went
great. We want to give a big thank you to Eyescream Productions and all
the fans. We shall return!”
In other news, KATAKLYSM have confirmed three headlining shows. The first
being the metal and hardcore festival in Colfontaine, Belgium and the

EX DEO
EX DEO, the band featuring KATAKLYSM
frontman Maurizio Iacono, have recruited renowned director Stanimir "Staca"
Lukic (MOONSPELL, KAMELOT, DEATHSTARS, TYPE O NEGATIVE) to film the music
video for the title track of the debut album titled "Romulus."
The clip will be filmed in early March in Belgrade, Serbia where the magic
of Rome will be recreated.
Commented Maurizio Iacono:
"I wanted the ideal person to bring this concept to life and we felt
Staca's plan to do it was the right one. What better place to capture it
then Europe itself?! Staca's work is nothing short of phenomenal and I
can’t wait to unleash the past fury of Rome on the world!"
Maurizio and company are currently locked in the compounds of JFD Studio's
in Canada with producer J-f Dagenais (KATAKLYSM, MISERY INDEX, DESPISED

ALIAS
Angelmilk Records is extremely pleased
to announce the signing of cult AOR heroes Alias for
the long overdue release of their classic never released second studio
album, to be titled Never Say Never.
The album's release comes after Angelmilk's Andrew McNeice spoke at
length with the band's guitarist Steve DeMarchi and representatives of
EMI Canada, who the album was originally recorded for. EMI were so
enthused with the idea, they decided to undertake the remastering
process from original master tapes themselves and will control the
release of the title in North America.
Rights for the world outside North America are with Angelmilk Records
and a release across all territories is planned for March. An exact
release date will be confirmed this week and announced ASAP.
In 1990, former members of both Sheriff ("When I'm With You")
& Heart formed Alias and released their self-titled debut album
which went on to Platinum sales and chart topping songs including
"Haunted Heart", "Waiting For Love" and "More
Than Words Can Say".
Now after more than 18 years, here it is...the second Alias album...for
all the fans who have asked through the years why the band never
followed up their highly praised debut release!
Recorded over a five month period in West Orange, New Jersey USA back in
1992, this album has not seen the light of day until now! A few of the
songs from these sessions were later re-recorded and appear on vocalist
Freddy Curci's solo debut release Dreamer's Road, but other then that,
the songs originally recorded, have remained in the vaults.
Among the tracks featured are several songs written by James Christian
(House Of Lords) and Mark Baker (Signal).
It is fully expected that Alias will support the release of this record
with a few select live performances in 2009.
Guitarist Steve DeMarchi states: "Unfortunately for us and many
other rock bands at that time .. the Grunge scene exploded and had taken
over ... Even though the first Alias album was successful...the climate
of music had changed almost overnight... Grunge was in ... Rock was out.
Through the years we always wondered if this album would ever get
released...Never Say Never!"
The Band: Freddy Curci - Vocals / Steve DeMarchi - Guitars / Marco
Mendoza - Bass / Larry Aberman - Drums / Robert O'Hearn - Keyboards /
Dennis DeMarchi - Keyboards.
WebLinks: www.myspace.com/theofficialalias
/ www.angelmilkrecords.co.uk.
Track Listing: 01. Woman Enough 02. XTCOI 03. How Much Longer Is Forever
04. Give Me A Reason To Stay 05. Wild Wild One 06. Pleasure And Pain 07.
The Warden 08. Bare Necessity 09. All I Want Is You 10. Call Of The Wild
11. Diamonds 12. Play Me A Song 13. We Want It All.
Bonus tracks: 14. Perfect World 15. Into The Fire 16. Call Me 17. Who Do
You Think You Are 18. When I'm With You (live acoustic version).

LION'S
SHARE
LION'S
SHARE – New
Album Artwork Unveiled
Swedish
melodic heavy metal masters LION'S
SHARE has unveiled the cover art for its upcoming sixth full-length
album, "Dark Hours".
LION'S
SHARE
will release its new album in late March 2009 via Blistering Records.
The follow-up to 2007's "Emotional Coma" was mixed and
mastered by Jens Bogren (OPETH, SYMPHONY X, PARADISE LOST, AMON
AMARTH) and features guest appearances by SYMPHONY X guitarist Mike
Romeo (guest solo on "Behind The Curtain"), and
drummers Conny Pettersson (from Earache Records death metal
act ANATA) and Richard Evensand (CHIMAIRA, SOILWORK).
"Dark Hours" track listing:
01. Judas Must Die
02. Phantom Rider
03. Demon In Your Mind
04. Heavy Cross To Bear
05. The Bottomless Pit
06. Full Metal Jacket
07. The Presidio 27
08. Barker Ranch
09. Napalm Nights
10. Space Scam
11. Behind The Curtain
12. King Of All The Kings (bonus track – limited-edition digipak
and Japanese version)
The band states: "The new songs are simply awesome and everybody that
has heard it thinks it's our best album to date. The red thread lyric-wise
on this album is that all songs are about things that happened in the late
Sixties; a decade known for many good things. However, we're not
describing the happy times of the Sixties: We give you the 'Dark Hours'.
Musically, it's more straight-forward and faster than ever. The songs are
filled with energy and great hooks."
LION'S SHARE's most recent album, "Emotional Coma",
was released in the
U.S.
January 29th, via Locomotive Music. The CD was issued by
AFM Records in
Europe
and Spiritual Beast in Japan/Asia and features guest solos from ex-KISS
guitarist Bruce Kulick, and ex-MEGADETH guitarist Glen
Drover.

I BUILT THE CROSS was formed during the summer of '08 by two long timetime
friends and ex-members of the popular death metal band DISFIGURING THE
GODDESS. As friends, Reed and Gare have been closer than brothers since
before either of them can remember, and as musicians, they've been working
together for the last several years. Although they have been involved in
musical projects spanning various different genres all across the board,
they claim that death metal is the only form of musical expression that
can truly make their hearts, minds, and desires most tangible.
I BUILT THE CROSS is a Christ-centered, spirit-led technical death metal
band with a driven and distinguishable purpose: spread Jesus' name to an
audience of people in a music scene that is generally stereotyped as
"evil." To them, musicians aren't defined by the music they
play, rather, it is the other way around. As a whole, I BUILT THE CROSS is
ultimately concerned with clarifying the unconditional love of Jesus —
the Savior, the Friend, the Father.
Look for I BUILT THE CROSS's debut album out this spring on Open Grave
Records.

THERAPY?
Irish rockers THERAPY? will release their new
studio album, "Crooked Timber", on March 23 via Global Music.
For the past two years, THERAPY? fans have eagerly awaited the band's
return. Now they're back with a hard-edged recording that will really get
under your skin and into your mind.
"We're really excited about getting these tracks heard and can't wait
to play them live," says frontman Andy Cairns." We've spent
enough time away now — it's time to get involved. There’s always the
risk of getting lazy and simply churning out what's 'expected' or a 'safe
bet' but that was never an option for 'Crooked Timber'. Making the album
was a great experience and now it's time to get back in peoples
faces."

Chris "Zeuss" Harris (HATEBREED, SHADOWS FALL, AGNOSTIC FRONT,
TERROR, THE ACACIA STRAIN). "Sonically, this album sounds
amazing," vocalist Mark Hunter wrote on the group's web site.
"Ben [Schigel, producer], Zeuss [who mixed the CD] and Ted did an
amazing job making our vision come to reality. The album has exceeded
everyone in this band's expectations."

EX DEO
EX DEO, the new band led by KATAKLYSM frontman
Maurizio Iacono, has posted a demo version of the track "Cry
Havoc" on the group's MySpace
page. The song will appear on the group's forthcoming debut album,
"Romulus", tentatively due in September via Nuclear Blast
Records. The CD is being produced by KATAKLYSM guitarist Jean-Francois
Dagenais (MISERY INDEX, DESPISED ICON, MALEVOLENT CREATION) at JFD
studios.
Commented Iacono: "I chose to debut the new track on January 11
because it is the day my father was born (he passed away a few years
ago). My father was a disciple of Roman history and taught me many
things throughout the years. I remember a time he said, 'Son, everything
you see around you, our ancestors built the foundation for it. From the
way the wars were fought to the democracy you live in…' and I have
been fascinated by it ever since. For his soul looking over me and for
the future of this project, I launch a new seed for Roma on the 11th of
2009."
Regarding the recording process for "Romulus", Iacono said,
"I have enlisted the people that I trust the most on this important
project (the boys in KATAKLYSM) to work with me on the first EX DEO
album, maybe all of them, we'll see how it goes. Jean-Francois Dagenais,
Stephane Barbe and Max Duhamel are family and it is important to me to
be comfortable and at home. The difference in EX DEO is that Stephane
will be taking on guitar duties, and as some of you know, his classical
background will come into play here. I have also enlisted Jonathan Leduc
from Montreal's stellar formation BLACKGUARD to carry out the roman
symphonies and madness on the keys. The bass player will come from one
of Canada's best: Francois Mongrain of MARTYR. We're also currently
looking into having some special guest and friends on the new album.
We'll see how it works out!
"On a last note, I'd like to shoot down any rumors and reassure any
worried fans that I am NOT leaving KATAKLYSM for EX DEO, absolutely NOT.
KATAKLYSM is my baby and we're still going to tour throughout 2009 for
'Prevail' and then record a new album for 2010. We already have a
working title and we're going to create a classic that will turn heads,
it's a promise! For now, we're going to take our time and make it
right."
"Romulus" is scheduled to be completed by mid-March.

CANNIBAL CORPSE

The title track of CANNIBAL CORPSE's forthcoming
album, "Evisceration Plague", is available for streaming at this
location.
"Evisceration Plague" is scheduled for release on February 3, 2009
via Metal Blade Records. The follow-up to 2006's "Kill" was
produced by Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL, MORBID ANGEL) at his Mana Recording
Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Commented bassist Alex Webster: "In CANNIBAL CORPSE, our goal has
always been to try and make each new album we record our heaviest. That goal
was a bit more challenging this time since we were extremely satisfied with
our last album 'Kill', but we knew that by working with producer Erik Rutan
at Mana Recording Studios again, we would be able to start at that same
level of heaviness and take it even further. Now that we can hear the
finished product, I would say we've been able to achieve this goal, and I
think our fans will agree. 'Evisceration Plague' has the best guitar sound
we've ever recorded, and the entire band has never played with more
precision and power. We can't wait until you all get a chance to hear the
album in early 2009, because we think you'll be as happy with it as we
are."
"Evisceration Plague" track listing:
01. Priests of Sodom
02. Scalding Hail
03. To Decompose
04. A Cauldron of Hate

07. Carnivorous Swarm
08. Evisceration Plague
09. Shatter Their Bones
10. Carrion Sculpted Entity
11. Unnatural
12. Skewered From Ear to Eye

THROES OF DAWN
Finnish dark metal band THROES
OF DAWN has issued the following update:
"The recordings of the fifth [THROES OF DAWN] album have been finished
on most parts and the sound engineer will start the mixing process at the
very beginning of January.
"As you can guess, the recording of this album has not been an easy
task. It has required the patience of a dead animal to pull this thing
through. But I can guarantee you it has been well worth all the time and
trouble. This album is going to be the ultimate THROES OF DAWN album, our
magnum opus.
"We are well behind the schedules and plans, and I'm not going to give
you any release date because it will probably not hold anyway, but the most
important thing is that we are actually making progress and all the work
will be over very soon."
THROES OF DAWN's fourth album, "Quicksilver Clouds", was released
in the U.S. in January 2005 via Cleopatra Records

EX DEO
MAURIZIO’s EX DEO TO DEBUT
NEW TRACK JANUARY 11th
EX DEO frontman Maurizio Iacono
issues update on EX DEO activities:
"The first thing that comes to my mind is the end of another year and
the entering of another: 2009. Time flies by my friends and I wish everyone
a wonderful 2009 with less negativity than what 2008 brought. You know what
they say, darkness is followed by light, and vice versa, a cycle of life.
In 2009, a band I've been waiting to launch for the longest time will
finally see its light of day: EX DEO. I've dabbled with this idea even at
earlier times when KATAKLYSM's
2001 album Epic (The Poetry of War)
and 2002's Shadows & Dust were released. I was never able to fully carry
it out the right way, that is, until now.
As Roman ancestors believed, once Jupiter (king of the gods, son of Saturn)
made his rulings, it had to be followed. The time has now come, it is now
your turn to follow the calling and witness the rise of this new blood: EX
DEO."
On January 11th, EX DEO will premiere a new, demo version of the track
"Cry Havoc" from the upcoming debut album, Romulus, tentatively
planned for a September 2009 release. The new album, Romulus, will be
produced by J-f Dagenais (Kataklysm , Misery Index , Despised icon,
Malevolent Creation) at JFD studios.
Maurizio comments:
"I chose to debut the new track on January 11th because it is the day
my father was born (he passed away a few years ago). My father was a
disciple of Roman history and taught me many things throughout the years. I
remember a time he said "Son, everything you see around you, our
ancestors built the foundation for it. From the way the wars were fought to
the democracy you live in…" and I have been fascinated by it ever
since. For his soul looking over me and for the future of this project, I
launch a new seed for Roma on the 11th of 2009.
I promise something
that is much needed in the scene today. It's going to kick ass!"
Stay tuned exclusively at: www.myspace.com/exdeo
Maurizio will be checking in regularly with studio blogs and the
writing/recording progress starting February 1st. The new album, Romulus, is
scheduled to be completed by mid March.
