"Hi metalheads, shit...has it really been ten years since the beginning of Gurd? I'm getting old...*ggg* it seems like yesterday when we thought about doing something new, something different..." with these words VO Pulver begins to introduce 10 years of Gurd's music in the nice booklet of the live album+dvd "10 Years of Addiction". "10 Years of Addiction is not only a great work consisting in a two-disc proposal indeed, focused on the anniversary concert hold at Z7 in 2004, it is indeed a token about 10 years of overwhelming music. These 10 years of career were celebrated in 2004 in Pratteln during a fantastic night to remember. One year later, this major night is brought to you, in your homes, you can hear it thanks the cd, you can see it thanks the dvd.  Were you there? if yes, you will get goose skin by living again that atmosphere. On the contrary , if you had not the possibility to attend that concert , or  if you are not in Switzerland, this is a good occasion to get involved in something you have lost, or simply to know better a band that in Switzerland (and not only in Switzerland!) has got legendary contours.  This is Metal transformed into fuel: Thrash mixed with metalcore spiced up with sensational heavy pounding riffs and more modern groovy tendencies. And  This is exactly what Gurd are: groovy, enthusiastic, full of energy, contagiously exuberant, addictive with a sensational ability to calibrate the sound. No matter if you are basically a  Power-listener or a  Death and Black devotee, cause with GurD you will  be caught in a vortex of high spirited  mood . and to attend one of their concert means to have always a  great time! if you are already oriented then in direction pro-pain, you will find in Gurd a manifestation. GurD s near to the  American heaviness but without excessive wrath, only unrestrained vitality and very good memorable musical contents. Actually  i'm thinking above all to my American readers, so far from Switzerland. They shouldn't miss to know Gurd. It is simply so, Gurd like Drug for good music, for energy and for strength. GurD that teach you that you must  never give up in your life. "Skin up" is their motto, "you fucking rule the pit" is  their typical expression dedicated to their fans everywhere in gratitude and respect.  To me too it seems yesterday. "Yesterday",  when i happened to see Gurd for the first time at the Summer Breeze 2002. Though in puncto music (and not only music) i'm very dark and obscure oriented,    i cannot help to remain amazed when i listen to tracks like the hammering and rocking " Down the Drain" , the slightly hypnotic "Older but wiser" , the trashy "Masterplan", or the super heavily cadenced "Distinction" strong and neck breaking like an Armageddon, or the fast rolling and deathy "We will resist" (if Runemagick would play very fast instead of playing doom , i'm sure they would play songs like we will resist) , or the flagships  and masterpieces  Skin up,  Razorblade,  Get up, HxHxHx and The Mant (get groovy).  Pure metal that masters speed  uptempo as well as panzer mid tempo,  melodies and smashing loops. It seems to use too "big"  words but, in all sincerity and honesty,  there are no words to describe the enthusiasm- driven phenomenon GurD. I'm trying since 3 years but ...no way: you  must see and listen to them. In the metal universe, GurD have an aura "per se". I have the impression they  tend to remain above the star system carousel, moreover you must have boiling blood for loving GurD; you must be done of metal flesh. Their  stuff is stuff  for stage diving, for becoming one with  jumping and  headbanging . You cannot escape the ruling riffs , the versatile drumming,  the groovy bass and VO's solid vocals. Nothing for heart-patients and, above all, nothing for the " heartagrammatic" ones (if you understand what i mean here ;P)

This live CD makes me simply dive again into Gurd live, into  hammering loops, into breathtaking and catchy phrases, into a  way of rocking us towards more  optimistic shores. Technically the sound is nearly perfect, you have the sensation to be on the stage with VO, Franky, Thschibu and Spring, but, at the same time, you can appreciate all the participation of the audience. I didn't expect nothing less from  a quality band like GurD, so i wouldn't proceed further with  the pedantic speech about  how good this album sounds. The fellow disc dvd makes this great fiesta "visible" . The cd is 17 tracks long and stops after HxHxHx, while the DVD offers the whole long concert through 23 tracks, from the beginning to the very end  where all  former members of GurD joined proposing  all together songs like  Get groovy, Warmachine  and S.O.D.-Cover United Forces. The DVD is also enriched by  bonus stuff like all GurD videoclips, livecams and discography. The menu is perfect and wonderfully animated. Highly professional. A good work done by  Polycore-Team. Back to the concert: you see the band as you  were sitting on the edge of the stage, you can almost touch them, trying to finally decrypt its secret. How is it possible that GurD play like they were born with their instruments and their skillfulness ready? That night GurD had the Z7 at their feet, like  happened already at the  metal dayz in 2003 for example. their national and even many international fans were there, to support with  incredible warmth this metal Cult . But somehow "10 years of Addiction" makes me realize now  that maybe it was the opposite, it was us the fans to have this metal legend at our feet playing for us a memorable concert. Thanks Gurd !...and now...ehi ...skin up! cause we want other 10 years of unrestrained pleasure! hehehhe i know,  i know.... fans are always ...unbearable!! \m/
