Music for the Night

Lack of consistence

This is the 5th album for the German melancholic rock band that comes out with another release penalized by a modest production…

The sound is a mix between 70’s rock a là David Bowie and a far shadow of obscure mood that sometimes remind of dark rock…and a touch of modern rock R.E.M. style.

The result is mediocre, not only for the lack of consistence of many songs that doesn’t get groove but also for the sound that leaves much to be desired. The arrangements are essential and almost never the band tries to find different solutions about the sound…one of the few songs in which they try to do something different is “Farewell in blue” that gets an interesting atmosphere   born around a good loop…while the melody doesn’t seem to be one of those to be remembered….

The guitars get a very low quality concerning distortions, and also concerning drums I underline the insistence of the production.

Among sad  acoustic ballads and retro-rock songs , this album can be a bit interesting for all those who appreciate the typical 70’s rock but also for those who like bands like R.E.M. and Marillion…But,of course, these mentioned bands belong however to another planet…..

rating: 5/10
