Scorched earth and satisfied spectators.

Today is a special day. The ninth Destroyer Night edition stepped back to the place where everything started. I’m also happy about the fact that the journey to the destination doesn’t take much time.

I arrived at the location after 20 minutes and got informed that two further bands called The Dead Lay Waiting from the United Kingdom and Beyond The Dust from France were added to the billing.

Sweet Massacre opened as first act. It was great to see these guys live after a long time again. They did a hella good job like last time when I saw ‘em live on stage. Singer Michel Egloff and his band mates proved that Death Metal made in Switzerland is as good as Swedish Death Metal or US Death Metal. They kicked ass from the beginning and received ovations.

Areion became the second live act. Tonight their mixture of Deathcore and Metalcore sounded much better than last time at the dance palace. Singer Torsten Nagel, guitar player Claudio Fabbri, and Benji Büchel and the other members improved their skills extremely and the performance was outstanding. Unfortunately, “7 String Song” was the last song what I disliked. I wish they had played more songs.

The Melodic Metal act The Dead Lay Waiting was the third live act. The English were in an unfortunate situation, because all of their shows in Germany got cancelled. It’s a nice gesture from DeadlineBooking givin’ them the chance to play a show in Switzerland.

Well, I have to admit that I never heard anything of these guys. That’s why I was excited about their show. Their performance was intensive. Singer Luke Lucas and the guitar players Ben Connett and Steve Franklin didn’t let anybody down.

Scarred By Beauty were the next act. The Danish about former Hatesphere singer Jonathan Albrechtsen started a kick ass show with Metalcore, which included many breakdown elements. The resonance was overwhelming and manifested in Stage Diving, Moshing and Violent Dancing. Basically, you could see that the crowd went totally nutz and the band was more in front of the stage than on stage and rocked with the spectators. There was no time for a break. In opposite of their last show, they left scorched earth and satisfied spectators tonight.

Beyond the Dust played as last act. Sometimes, the metalcore sound reminded of American Big acts like Straight Line Stitch and Otep, but convinced everyone. From time to time a little breath of Black Label Society and Walls of Jericho was in the air. Another plus point was singer Syhem Angel, who didn’t only sing great, she also looked gorgeous and many male hearts started beating faster. “Chained at the Gate” was introduced as a brand new song to the crowd. Their performance was great, but too short.

Big thanks to DeadlineBooking Switzerland and the youth centre Tramstation for their hospitality and organisation. And last but not least, thanks to all bands for their effort.

Heute ist ein ganz spezieller Tag. Denn die neunte Ausgabe der Destroyer Night Konzertreihe kehrte an den Austragungsort zurück, wo die erste Ausgabe stattgefunden hatte. Für mich auch deshalb erfreulich, weil die Anreise nicht so lange dauern würde.

Nach einer 20-minütigen Fahrt war ich vor Ort und erfuhr, dass mit The Dead Lay Waiting aus dem Vereinigten Königreich und Beyond The Dust aus Frankreich zwei weitere Bands gebucht wurden.

Als erste Band eröffneten Sweet Massacre. Es war toll die Jungs nach langer Zeit wieder live zu sehen. Wie beim letzten Mal zeigten Sänger Michel Egloff & Co, dass Death Metal made in Switzerland genauso gut klingt wie Schweden Tod oder Ami Death Metal. Von Beginn weg gaben sie ihr Bestes und wurden mit Applaus verabschiedet.

Daraufhin war mit Areion der zweite Lokal Act an der Reihe. Heute kam ihre Mischung aus Deathcore und Metalcore noch besser zur Geltung als beim vergangenen Auftritt im Tanzpalast. Sänger Torsten Nagel, die Gitarristen Claudio Fabbri und Benji Büchel und die anderen Mitglieder haben sich extrem gesteigert und es war ein Hochgenuss ihrer Performance beizuwohnen. Leider folgte mit „7 String Song“, der letzte Song was ich schade fand. Hätte ihnen eine längere Spielzeit gegönnt.

Mit den Melodic Metallern The Dead Lay Waiting kam die dritte Band zum Zug. Die Engländer hatten wirklich Pech, denn ihre Deutschland Gigs wurden abgesagt. Für mich eine tolle Geste von DeadlineBooking Switzerland ihnen eine Chance in der Schweiz zu geben.

Von den Briten hatte ich bisher noch nie was gehört. Daher war ich gespannt wie sie beim Publikum ankommen würden. Ihr Auftritt war dann intensiv und Sänger Luke Lucas, die Gitarristen Ben Connett und Steve Franklin liessen nichts anbrennen

Scarred By Beauty waren als nächstes an der Reihe. Die Dänen um Ex-Hatesphere Fronter Jonathan Albrechtsen traten mit einer Kick Ass Show und breakdownlastigem Metalcore auf. Die Resonanz fiel sehr positiv aus und manifestierte sich in Stage Diving, Moshen und Violent Dancing. Grundsätzlich kann man sagen, dass das Publikum voll austickte und die Band mehr vor als auf der Bühne war und aktiv mit den Zuschauern abrockten. Da gab es keine Zeit zu verschnaufen. Im Gegensatz zum letzten Schweizer Gig hinterliessen sie heute verbrannte Erde und zufriedene Zuschauer.

Beyond The Dust machten den Abschluss. Mit einem Metalcore, der phasenweise an amerikanische Hochkaräter wie Otep und Straight Line Stitch erinnerte, überzeugten sie auf der ganzen Linie. Gelegentlich schimmerte ein Hauch von Black Label Society und Walls of Jericho durch. Ein weiterer Pluspunkt war Sängerin Syhem Angel, die nicht nur toll singen konnte, sondern auch optisch ein Hingucker war und somit das eine oder andere Männerherz höher schlagen liess. Mit „Chained at the Gate“ wurde ein brandneuer Song vorgestellt. Ihr Auftritt war phänomenal, aber auch leider zu kurz.

Der Dank gebührt DeadlineBooking Switzerland und dem Jugendhaus Tramstation für die tolle Gastfreundschaft und Organisation. Ebenfalls gebührt ein weiterer Dank den Bands für ihre Leistungen.

Ce jour était très spécial. La neuvième édition du Destroyer Night à eu lieu au même endroit qu'à la première édition. J'étais très content, car ce n'était pas loin de chez moi.

Je suis arrivé sur place vingt minutes après et j'ai appris que  les groupes The Dead Lay Waiting du Royaume-Uni et Beyond The Dust de France s'étaient ajoutés aux groupes se produisant sur scène.

Sweet Massacre ont ouvert le concert. C'était génial de les revoir en live après une longue période. Comme la dernière fois, Michel Egloff & Co ont montrés que le Death Metal made in Switzerland est tout aussi bon que le Death Metal suédois ou américain. Ils ont donné le meilleur d'eux même, du début à la fin du concert et ils ont été chaleuresement applaudis par le public.

Areion c'est produit en deuxième et le mélange de Metalcore et Deathcore à beaucoup mieux  rendu qu'à leur concert du Tanzpalast. Le chanteur Torsten Nagel, les guitaristes Claudio Fabbri et Benji Büchel et les autres members du groupe se sont extrèmement améliorés. C'a été grandiose de pouvoir y assister. Malheureusement, ils ont fini par la chanson “7 String Song”, ce que j'ai trouvé dommage. Sinon je leur aurais bien accordé un plus de temps sur scène.

Le troisième groupe The Dead Lay Waiting étaient des métalleux mélodiques. Ces anglais ont eu de la malchance car leur tour en Allemagne avait été annulé. Mais DeadlineBooking Switzerland leur a permis de faire un concert en Suisse. Ce que j'ai trouvé très gentil.

Je n'avais encore jamais entendu ces Anglais et j'étais très curieux de découvrir comment le public allait les acceuillir. Le concert était intense, le chanteur Luke Lucas, les guitaristes Ben Connett et Steve Franklin ont été très persuasifs .

Le groupe Scarred By Beauty suivait. Les danois avec ex Hatesphere le chanteur Jonathan Albrechtsen sont apparus avec un show et du Metalcore intensifs, incluant des éléments de Breakdowns.

La résonance de leur musique à beaucoup plu et l'enthousiasme du public s'est manifesté en Stage Diving, Moshing et Violent Dancing. Il faut dire que le groupe était plus devant la scène que dessus et ils ont été très actifs. Pas le temps de faire une pause. Contrairement à leur dernière manifestation, ils ont laissés une terre brûlée et des spectateurs heureux derrière eux.

Beyond The Dust clôturait le concert. Avec leur Metalcore qui rappelait les groupes américains Straight Line Stitch et Otep, ils ont convaicus sur toute la ligne. Occasionellement, des influences du type Black Label Society et Walls of Jericho étaient reconnaissables dans leur musique. La chanteuse Syhem Angel rajoutait un bon point indéniable, car elle avait non seuleument une belle voix, mais était très jolie, ce qui à fait battre le coeur des hommes à une fréquence suppérieure. Ils ont finis par présenté leur toute nouvelle chanson “Chained at the Gate” et leur présence sur scène était phénoménale, mais de trop courte durée.
