Mysterious world fraught with danger and adventures.

Dystera is a Swiss Epic Symphonic Power Metal Band from Basel. The band was founded by Dominik Geneto in 2006. Their contribution “Plight of the Knights” on the fourth edition of Swiss Metal sampler “Heavy Metal Nation” and the inhabitants of Basel gained public attention.

This enormous attention was responsible for the recording of their debut record “Journey Into The Shades” in 2008. It had been recorded at BWS Studios in Gelterkinden, Switzerland. Dominik Geneto produced the debut record in cooperation with Robert Dössegger.

Mika Jussila mastered it at well-known Finnvox Studios in Helsinki, Finland. The debut was issued in 2009 and doin’ commercials was at the top of the agenda. Dominik Geneto provided a new boost with new musicians in 2010 and shows followed where the whole record was presented.

Dystera is different in contrast to other bands where the music is in the foreground. There’s a concept behind the songs and they express it on stage by the use of costumes either.

It’s a mysterious world fraught with danger and adventures. What I notice when I look at the layout is that the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy left scars.

Now, let’s talk about the music. The focus is on the voice of singer Melanie Schweizer. Sometimes, she reminds me of Sharon von Adel (Within Temptation). The singing gets support by guitar tunes of Dominik Geneto during Daniel Bosshard adds a Folk influence with decent pipes use, which gets underlined with spherical keyboard tunes by Simon Infanger. A unique mixture that you don’t listen to everyday comes out of it.

Ex-Freedom Call guitar player Cedric”Cede”Dupont is featured as special guest on “Judgement of the wise, tunes of holy war and A Traveler’s destination” and enriches ‘em with guitar solos.

Actually, it’s really hard for me bringin’ out the highlights, because every track convinces with its own arrangement. For this reason, all songs became great.

You should check this band out if they’re in the neck of your woods. The acoustic and visual performance can maintain with big bands like Nightwish, Within Tempation or Epica.

Another thing worth mentioning is that the inhabitancies of Basel work on their next record called “The Dark Secrets of the Holy Priests”.

Mystische Welt voller Gefahren und Abenteuer.

Dystera ist eine Schweizer Epic Symphonic Power Metal Band aus Basel. 2006 wurde die Band von Dominik Geneto gegründet. Dank dem Beitrag „Plight of the Knights“ auf der vierten Ausgabe des Schweizer Metal Samplers „Heavy Metal Nation“ wurde die Öffentlichkeit auf die Basler aufmerksam.

Durch diese enorme Aufmerksamkeit bestärkt, entschloss man sich 2008 das Debütalbum „Journey Into The Shades“ aufzunehmen. Aufgenommen wurde es im BWS Tonstudio in Gelterkinden, Schweiz. Dominik Geneto produzierte das Debütalbum in Zusammenarbeit mit Robert Dössegger.

Gemastert wurde es von Mika Jussila in den renommierten Finnvox Studios in Helsinki, Finnland. 2009 wurde dann das Debüt auf die Metalgemeinde los gelassen und auf der Agenda stand Promotion für den Longplayer zu machen.

Mit neuen Musikern hat Dominik Geneto ab 2010 Dystera mit neuem Schub versehen und es folgten Konzerte auf denen das Album in voller Länge präsentiert wurde.

Im Gegensatz zu anderen Bands wo nur die Musik im Vordergrund steht, geht es im Fall von Dystera um mehr. Hinter den Songs verbirgt sich ein Konzept und das wird auch auf der Bühne durch den Einsatz von Kostümen zum Ausdruck gebracht.

Es geht in eine mystische Welt voller Gefahren und Abenteuer. Was mir bei der Aufmachung der CD auffällt ist, dass die „Herr Der Ringe“ Trilogie ihre Spuren hinterlassen hat.

Nun zur Musik: Was im Zentrum steht ist die Stimme von Sängerin Melanie Schweizer, die mich zwischendurch an Sharon von Adel (Within Temptation) erinnert. Getragen wird der Gesang mit Gitarrenriffs von Dominik Geneto, während Daniel Bosshard mit dezenten Flöteneinsätzen einen Folk Einfluss hinzufügt, der mit sphärischen Keyboardklängen von Simon Infanger unterlegt wird. Was dabei herauskommt ist eine einzigartige Mischung, die man nicht jeden Tag hört.

Als Special Guest konnte man Ex-Freedom Call Klampfer Cedric“Cede“Dupont gewinnen, der „Judgement of the wise, Tunes of holy war und bei A traveler’s destination“ mit Gitarrensolos veredelt.

Eigentlich tue ich mich sehr schwer Highlights hervorzuheben, denn jeder Song überzeugt durch seine Eigenart. Daher sind für mich alle Songs herausragend geworden.

Sollte die Band in eurer Nähe ein Konzert geben, solltet ihr die Chance ergreifen und sie euch live anschauen. Das akustische und visuell dargebotene kann mit namhaften Bands wie Nightwish, Within Temptation oder Epica mithalten.

Bleibt abschliessend nur noch zu erwähnen, dass die Basler gerade an ihrem nächsten Album arbeiten, welches den Namen „The Dark Secret of the Holy Priests“ trägt.

Un monde mystique, plein de danger et d’aventures.

Dystera est un groupe Suisse Epic Symphonic Power Metal de Bâle. En 2006 le group fut fondé par Dominik Geneto. Grace au chant „Plight of the Knights“ de la quatrième édition du Metal Samplers Suisse „Heavy Metal Nation“ le public a pris connaissance des bâlois.

Renforcé par cette énorme publicité on a décide d’enregistrer un album de début „Journey Into The Shades“ en 2008. Ca fut produit dans les studios d’enregistrement BWS à Gelterkinden en Suisse. Dominik Geneto a produit cette album ensemble avec Robert Dössegger.

Ca été matrisé par Mika Jussila dans les studios renommées Finnvox à Helsinki en Finlande. En 2009 on a lâché ce début vers la communauté du Métal avec la mission de faire la promotion pour le Longplayer.

Avec de nouveau musiciens Dominik Geneto a réussi en 2010 de pousser Dystera suivi des concerts dont l’album a été présente en toute la longueur.
En comparaison avec des autres groupes dont uniquement la musique est au premier plan, il s’agit dans le cas de Dystera de beaucoup plus. Derrière les chant tout un concept se cache ce qui se reflète sur scène par des différentes costumes.

Il s’agit d’un monde mystique, plein de danger et d’aventures. Ce qui me plait dans l’apparence du disque, c’est la trilogie des les traces « Des Seigneurs des Anneaux « 

Parlons du musique : Ce qui es l’élément centrale s’est la voix de la chanteuse Melanie Schweizer, qui me fait penser à Sharon von Adel (Within Temptation) de temps à temps. Ce chant est porté par le guitare joué par Dominik Geneto, quand Danile Bosshard infiltre doucement un aire de Folk avec sa flûte, souligné par des tonalités du clavier de Simon Infanger. Le résultat est une mixture qu’on entend pas tous les jours.

On a pu gagner comme invité spéciale Ex-Freedom Call Klampfer Cedric“Cede“Dupont, qui était part du groupe „Judgement of the wise, Tunes of holy war « et qui a ennobli la musique chez « A traveler’s destination » par ces solos de guitare.

En fait j’ai de la paine de pouvoir souligner les soit dit Highlights, car chaque chant est unique est convainquant. Raison pour que les tous sont pour mi exceptionnel. 

Si jamais le groupe donnera un concert dans votre région il faudrait cueillir la chance de pouvoir les voir en scène. La performance acoustique et visuelle peut se tenir au courant avec d’autres groupes, comme Nightwish, Within Temptation ou Epica par exemple.

Il me reste qu’a mentionner que les bâlois sont en train d’ enregistrer leur prochain album qui s’appelle „The Dark Secret of the Holy Priests“.
