It happens every year! Eastern is comin’ and you enjoy chocolate, family meetings and many more at this commercial event. But it would be cool if there was a great event in order to escape this hype for a few hours.

For this reason, the Basler booking agency Tersicore launched the Surviving Eastern Fest for everyone, who’s lookin’ for an alternation. That’s why the German bands Selfish Hate, Got Nuthin’, Blus and the Swiss band Worse to Come were hired.

Personal for me, it’s amazin’, because I never visited such a festival. I didn’t wait too long and moved straight to the occupied house called Villa Rosenau close to airport Basel-Mulhouse at Swiss / French border.

When I arrived, I was informed that the German band I cut out your name was forced to cancel their show in advance. Despite this fact, I was glad about the upcoming evening with much music and party.

Worse to Come from Basel opened as first live act on 9:30 PM with a Dubstep intro before “Intro Song” followed. The four guys at the age of 20 did a hella good job and kicked ass right from the start. That’s why drummer Marco von Allmen broke the snaredrum & bassdrum and an interruption followed in order to fix it. Meanwhile singer Basil Lehmann entertained the crowd with beat boxin’. After that a short journey into Dubstep and Reggae was launched, before ass kickin’ music returned.

Many people came up and celebrated every single track. The catchy guitar tunes of Lead guitar player Tiziano Volante were an acoustical highlight and were well-received. Event organiser Christian Mehlin entered the stage in the middle of the set and took the mic before he created a mosh pit. Next to this, some metalcore fans started violent dancing.

The performance was outstanding and hopefully they can keep up this level! Well done!

Blus from Lörrach, Baden-Wurttemberg was the second act on stage. I was really excited, because I never heard of Groovy Rockin’ Progressiv Electro Metal. And the show was awesome!

A Sepultura, Meshuggah and P.O.D. mix with a great vocal performance by singer Bernd Jerzembeck, who scored with a Jonathan Davis touch. No one was disappointed. Wilhelmus Bevensee supported him on the mic with background vocals and guitar tunes.

The only thing, which I missed, was the Electro element which couldn’t be used, because the stage was too small. The feedback was positive even when it wasn’t included. The Lörracher said goodbye and received standing ovations.

A short break was needed in order to gain new energy and gettin’ ready for the third act called Got Nuthin’. The Berlin guys recently started this group with a member of Tonedown. This show was their first one abroad.

It was late, but singer Tobi always pushed the crowd “comin’ closer to the stage, goin’ crazy and startin’ to rock”. The spectators obeyed and showed two step moves or started a mosh pit. You couldn’t only stand around by the sonic brew of Hatebreed, Madball and Pro Pain. Chris Mehlin was honored for this concert with the band anthem “Got Nuthin’” and Gonzo got a tribute with “Self respect”. Finally, he paid the bus and drove all the way from Berlin, Germany to Basel

The last song became the Misfits cover “Attitude” but nobody wanted see them stop playin’. Therefore, the third track “Back On” got played one more time and they scored again. That’s how straight to your face Hardcore has to be!

Selfish Hate was the headliner on 2:00 AM. The Freiburger played several times in Basel and already gained a fanbase. Their show was announced by the Lion King theme “Circle of Life” by Elton John.

The performance of singer Simon, guitar player Lutz and bass player Flo was on the same level like their predecessors from Berlin. The band did their best even when it was late and brought out the adrenaline, which manifested itself in violent dancing during “Massacre”.

“Fight for your right to Party”, the Beastie Boys cover was well-received and the roof was on fire, because every single spectator sung with the band. Furthermore, the new song “Fight like lions” was introduced for the first time to the public, what no one expected. The feedback was amazin’.

After the regular show time, a song called “Lass mich gehen” got played. It was the last track and meant the end. The spectators seemed very tired.

Alle Jahre ist es wieder soweit! Ostern steht vor der Tür und man gibt sich dem Kommerzfest um Schokolade, Familientreffen etc. hin. Dabei wäre es doch super, wenn irgendwo ein toller Event anstehen würde, um diesem Trubel für ein paar Stunden zu entkommen.

Aus diesem Grund stampfte die Basler Booking Agency Tersicore das Surviving Eastern Fest aus dem Boden für alle, die Abwechslung suchen. Dafür wurden die deutschen Bands Selfish Hate, Got Nuthin’, Blus und die Schweizer Band Worse to Come ins Boot geholt.

In meinen Augen eine feine Sache, denn bisher konnte ich zu Ostern noch kein Fest dieser Art besuchen. Als es dann soweit war, zögerte ich keine Sekunde und bewegte meinen Hintern in die Villa Rosenau, einem besetzten Haus in der Nähe des Flughafens Basel-Mulhouse an der Schweizer / Französischen Grenze.

Leider musste ich vor Ort dann erfahren, dass die Band I cut out your name im Vorfeld ihren Auftritt absagen musste. Trotz dieses Umstandes blieb die Hoffnung auf einen tollen Abend mit viel Live-Musik und Partystimmung.

Um 21:30 Uhr eröffneten die Basler Worse to Come den Abend mit einem Dubstep Intro ehe der „Intro Song“ erklang. Die vier Jungs mit einem Altersdurchschnitt von 20 Jahren machten ihre Sache sehr gut und gaben von Beginn weg Vollgas. Dies führte dazu, dass Schlagzeuger Marco von Allmen die Snaredrum und Bassdrum killte und ein Unterbruch war die Folge um den Schaden zu beheben. Unterdessen konnte Sänger Basil Lehmann mit einer Beatboxeinlage das Publikum unterhalten und die Stimmung retten. Danach folgte ein kurzer Ausflug in Dubstep- und Reggaegefilde, bevor wieder kräftig in den Arsch getreten wurde.

Viele Leute waren anwesend und feierten die Band mit jedem einzelnen Song ab. Was auch auffiel, waren die eingängigen Gitarrensolos von Lead Gitarrist Tizian Volante, welche gut ankamen. Ungefähr in der Mitte des Sets betrat Veranstalter Chris Mehlin die Bühne und griff das Mikro bevor er ein Moshpit startete.

Neben dieser Aktion vollführten einige Metalcore Fans Violent Dancing. Es war ein super Auftritt von den Baslern und hoffentlich können sie dieses Niveau halten! War super!

Mit Blus aus Lörrach, Baden-Württemberg stand die zweite Combo auf der Bühne. Auf sie war ich extrem gespannt, da ich noch nie etwas von Groovig Rockigem Progressiv Electro Metal gehört hatte. Was dann auf der Bühne geboten wurde, war erstklassig!

Ein richtig geiler Einschlag von Sepultura, Meshuggah, P.O.D. gepaart mit einer tollen Gesangsperformance von Bernd Jerzembeck mit einem Jonathan Davis Touch konnte bei den Zuschauern punkten und niemand wurde in irgendeiner Weise enttäuscht. Unterstützt wurde er am Mikrophon von Wil Anus Armando, der die Backing Vocals übernahm.

Was einfach fehlte war der Electro Einfluss, den man nicht ins Set einbauen konnte, da die Bühne zu klein war. Auch wenn dies nicht vorhanden war, fiel das Feedback von den Zuschauern positiv aus. Am Ende wurden die Lörracher mit zahlreichem Applaus verabschiedet.

Ein kurzer Abstecher an die Luft wurde nötig um neue Energie zu tanken und sich auf die dritte Band mit dem Namen Got Nuthin’ einzustellen. Seit kurzem sind die Berliner mit einem Mitglied von Tonedown am Start. Diese Show war ihr erster Abstecher ins Ausland.

Ohne etwas anbrennen zu lassen wurde von Beginn weg zu später Stunde gerockt und das Publikum systematisch von Sänger Tobi aufgefordert näher zur Bühne vorzurücken, Gas zu geben und nicht nur rumzustehen wie eine Tanne im Wald. Die Zuschauer gehorchten und zeigten daraufhin Two Step Moves oder starteten einen Moshpit. Bei dem Schallgebräu aus Madball, Hatebreed und Pro Pain konnte man kaum rumstehen! Mit der Bandhymne „Got Nutin’“ wurde Chris Mehlin für den Auftritt gedankt und mit „Self Respect“ bekam Gonzo einen Tribut! Schliesslich hatte er den Bus bezahlt und ist die ganze Strecke von Berlin nach Basel gefahren!

Als letzter Song des Abends folgte ein Cover des Misfits Klassikers „Attitude“, aber niemand wollte dass die Berliner aufhören zu spielen. Daher wurde mit „Back On“ der dritte Song nochmals gespielt und abgeräumt! So muss straight to your face hardcore klingen! War grossartig!

Nach 2 Uhr war der Headliner Selfish Hate am Start. Die Freiburger waren schon mehrere Male in Basel aufgetreten und konnten dadurch schon eine Fanbase aufbauen. Mit dem Elton John Intro „Circle of Life“ aus dem Film „Lion King“ wurde ihr Auftritt angekündigt.

Die Performance von Sänger Simon, Gitarrist Lutz und Bassist Flo gegenüber ihren Vorgängern aus Berlin war auf demselben Niveau. Obwohl es schon spät war, gab die Band ihr Bestes und entlockte den Zuschauern den letzten Funken Adrenalin, der sich bei „Massacre“ in Circle Pits und Violent Dancing manifestierte.

Das Beastie Boys Cover „Fight for Your Right“ fand super Anklang und die Stimmung kochte bei dem Song über, denn diesmal sang jeder Zuschauer mit. Ausserdem gab es mit dem neuen Song „Fight like Lions“ eine Premiere, was niemand wirklich erwartet hatte. Die Resonanz auf dieses Stück war grossartig.

Nach der regulären Spielzeit wurde mit dem Song „Lass Mich Gehen“ ein Stück auf Deutsch gespielt. Dies läutete das Ende des Konzertes ein und die Zuschauer waren danach fix und fertig.
