Nasum

NASUM
drummer Anders Jakobson has posted
the following message on the group's
official web site:
"This past week the artwork and
booklet design for the last (?)NASUM
release, the collection 'Grind Finale',
was finalized and sent to the printer. Now
I finally can give you a preview of the
front cover for this release.
"The cover
has been made by Relapse's art
department — Orion Landau did the
front cover and disc design and Jonathan
Canady did the booklet design. I've
worked very closely with these guys and
the result is quite stunning, if you ask
me. I am totally satisfied with
everything.
"One of the most important things
about the collection has been the
packaging. I wanted this release to be
something special, something that made it
worth buying instead of downloading, which
sadly has been the option for many people
these days. Not surprising Relapse
shared this idea and worked with me to
find the ultimate package.
"We decided to do the same kind of CD
package as TOOL used for their 'Salival'
release a couple of years ago. The package
has hard covers with the two discs on the
inside and between the covers an 80-page
(!) booklet with liner notes, lyrics and
lots of photos and artwork, some
previously not seen before. I guarantee
that 'Grind Finale' will be worth
the money it costs! (Note that we will not
have the traycase and plastic box that 'Salival'
has!)
"The release dates are as follows:
USA: October 25th; Europe: October 31st;
Japan: November (the Japanese edition will
not include any bonus stuff!).
"So it’s roughly two months left
until 'Grind Finale' is released.
Remember that you can download 21 samples
from the compilation at the audio/video page
and read more about 'Grind Finale'
in this statement
and in this detailed information."

"Piggy" D'Amour - ALL THAT REMAINS -
TAPPING
THE VEIN
|

Denis
"Piggy" D'Amour

|
|
VOIVOD
guitarist Denis
"Piggy" D'Amour passed
away Friday night (August 26) at approximately
11:45 p.m. due to complications from advanced
colon cancer — so advanced that the disease
had spread to his liver. D'Amour
slipped into a coma Thursday night and died
less than 24 hours later in the palliative
care unit of a Montreal hospital, surrounded
by family and friends. He was 45 years old.
Quebec City newspaper Le
Soleil reported on 26th August that D'Amour
— who was diagnosed with colon cancer
earlier in the summer — first entered the
hospital for a routine operation, but several
complications led his doctors to suspect more
problems. Then the grim verdict was revealed:
the cancer, already too advanced, was
inoperable.
Only two months ago, D'Amour was in the
studio working on the 14th album from the
Canadian thrash-metal pioneers VOIVOD.
More than two dozen tracks are believed to
have been demoed for the CD, for which the
group recently inked a deal with The End
Records. However, the band were forced to
put studio work on hold while bassist Jason
Newsted (ex-METALLICA) was treated
for tendonitis.
Prior to his hospitalization, D'Amour
laid down guitar tracks for a reunion CD from
the legendary AUT'CHOSE, a '70s band
from Montreal. That album is expected to
surface next summer.

All That Remains

ALL THAT
REMAINS, the
Massachusetts-based act featuring former SHADOWS
FALL vocalist Philip Labonte,
have announced the addition of bassist Jeanne
Fagan to the group's ranks. Fagan,
who has been playing with the group for the
past few weeks as a session bassist, has
accepted the offer to join the band as a
permanent member. "We welcome Jeanne
to the team as she brings an invaluable
amount of talent and charisma to the
band," the group write on their web
site.
ALL THAT REMAINS' sophomore album, "This
Darkened Heart", is available now
on Prosthetic Records. The follow-up
to 2002's "Behind Silence and
Solitude" was produced by KILLSWITCH
ENGAGE guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz.

Huntenpop

Deutsche
Topbands Juli und
In
Extremo auf Huntenpop
Am
Samstag, den 3. September treten auf dem
Huntenpop-Festival in Varsselder, kurz hinter
der Grenze bei Emmerich, nicht weniger als 33
Bands auf. Dies geschieht auf fünf
verschiedenen Bühnen in fünf gewaltigen
Festivalzelten. Es ist hierbei die Rede von
einem manigfaltigen, internationalem
Programmablauf. So kommen u.a. aus Deutschland
die Topbands Juli, In Extremo und AK4711.
In
Extremo ist eine berliner Band, die
musikalisch schwer zu beschreiben ist. Sie
kombinieren Heavymetal (à la Rammstein) mit
Dudelsackmusik und Einflüssen von The Pogues.
Bei Live-Auftritten verausgaben sie sich
restlos mit einer gewaltigen, spektakulären Bühnenshow
inkl. Feuerwerk, so dass es eigentlich keine
andere Wahl gibt als: Auf zum Huntenpop 2005,
um diese einmalige Band zu sehen!
AK4711
AK4711
genau jetzt.
600.000 (!) mal verkauften Album ausgekoppelt
wurden, standen lange an der Spitze der
deutschen Charts.
Singlegruppe betrachtet.

Former
VADER Drummer DOC

|
|
Former VADER
drummer Krzysztof "Docent"
Raczkowski (a.k.a. Doc) has passed
away at age 35. No further details about his
death are currently available. [UPDATE: This
has now been confirmed by VADER's
official web site, Vader.pl]
In a March 2005 statement announcing Doc's
departure from the group, VADER
frontman Peter said, "Doc
pretty hard tried to 'fight' against his
weaknesses, which were troubles for all of us.
Finaly he had not prevailed over that
battle... All in all, he attempted. . . VADER
today is not just a friendship anymore —
it's our life with armies of man involved in
music, releases and — first of all — fans
waiting for shows or new albums... This is a
high responsibility, not too many know about.
If a person, even the most talented one,
cannot stand it — [he] has to leave... That
was Doc's decision as well."

Draconian

|
|
Due
to personal setbacks, keyboardist Andreas
Karlsson will not perform live at the Summer
Breeze Open Air. Draconian have been
rehearsing with session-member Sanne
Karlsson, who will replace Andreas
temporarily. She will fill in for Andreas
during his absence. Her commitment to
Draconian is highly appreciated by the band.
Peter Lautsen, bass player for Swedish Death
Metal acts such as Cold Existence and
Maleficio, will also perform at Summer
Breeze, as well as other live dates this
year. Whether or not he will become Jesper
Stolpe's replacement has yet to be decided.
Draconian
is preparing to record a so-called bonus
album this fall. The album will feature
three new songs (incl. "The Dying"
and "Of Love and Shadows"), new
versions of two to three demo songs (incl.
"The Gothic Embrace") and three
covers (incl. "Gothic" by Paradise
Lost). "The Burning Halo" is the
album's working title and should be released
via Napalm Records in November, at the
latest.

Jarkko
Aaltonen continues as Korpiklaani's
permanent bass player. Arto, who began
his military service in July, has
decided not to return to the clan,
citing his busy personal life.
Nevertheless,
the band is more than happy with his
replacement, who will keep Korpiklaani's
rythmic artillery firing away.
Like
Jonne, Jarkko hails from the forests of
Vesilahti.

recorded in a rough mix.
Furthermore, the band is currently
negotiating the details for their next
tour, which should take them to many
national and international destinations.

Midnattsol

Having
cemented their status as a live act
with numerous shows through Germany
with the likes of IN EXTREMO, SUBWAY
TO SALLY and SCHANDMAUL, Nordic folk
metal act MIDNATTSOL
are now in the process of writing new
songs. According to the band, the new
material is more folk oriented than
the songs on their debut album, Where
Twilight Dwells, and a little bit
heavier. The band has been toying with
the idea of using male growling (read:
trollcore) vocals as an enhancement on
some of the new material, but
according to vocalist Carmen Elise
this is nothing more than a thought at
the moment.
In
other news, the official MIDNATTSOL

Century
Media Records has announced the
worldwide signing of Belgian death/grinders ABORTED.
"It's been a very hectic, intense and
heavy year for ABORTED," says
founder and lead vocalist Sven De Caluwé.
"Yet a year in which we have done tons
of amazing things, went to amazing places
and met a lot of cool new people. One of
those amazing things is being signed to a
label we believe will be able to lift this
band to new heights. They believe in us 200
percent and are going to help us take the
next step in our careers."
The band is gearing up for a North American
tour this fall with SUFFOCATION, CRYPTOPSY
and DESPISED ICON. This will serve as
the band's first-ever full U.S. tour.
"With our North American tour we will
finally be able to get out to the U.S. and
Canada and do some damage," De Caluwé
says. "Needless to say, we are
extremely thrilled to hit the road and to be
a part of the growing Century Family,
a company that stands for nothing but
quality releases and that strongly supports
every cool act under their wings."
ABORTED's latest offering, "The
Archaic Abattoir", was licensed in
North America via Century Media/Olympic
Recordings on May 17.

Cryptopsy

|
|
Century Media Records
has set an October 18 release date for the
fifth album from Canadian death metallers CRYPTOPSY,
entitled "Once Was Not".
The new CD, featuring the long-anticipated
return of vocalist Lord Worm, was
recorded at Studio Vortex in St-Constant,
Canada by producer Sebastien Marsan,
and again infuses extreme music with
awe-inspiring precision, rabidly dynamic
rhythms, and mouth-foaming viciousness.
The album was mastered by UE Nastasi
at Sterling Sound in New York City
and features artwork by François Quévillon,
Filip Ivanovic and Martin
Lacroix. With eleven tracks totaling
about 50 minutes, "this is a concept
album where every song has its own
identity. We made sure to have a lot of
flavors and different rhythms and tempos
throughout the whole process, the
variations in the tracks may surprise some
of you," the band write on their web
site.
CRYPTOPSY will be steamrolling
across North America with SUFFOCATION
and ABORTED from late September to
November.

Dream Evil

|
|
Vocalist Niklas Isfeldt
and bassist Peter Stålfors have
officially left DREAM EVIL, the
Swedish band featuring acclaimed producer Fredrik
Nordström (HAMMERFALL, IN
FLAMES, DIMMU BORGIR, SPIRITUAL
BEGGARS, etc.) and drummer Snowy Shaw
(KING DIAMOND, MERCYFUL FATE, MEMENTO
MORI, NOTRE DAME). Peter
and Niklas' statement on the matter
reads as follows:
"Because of personal issues and the
fact that Niklas has problems with
constantly recurring health problems, we
have taken the painful decision to leave the
band.
"All our friends are telling us that
it's a bad idea to leave the band now when
it's starting to get big, but you may come
to a point in your life where you have to
make a choice. We have now come to this
point in our lives and the choice we have
made is to put more time into our families
and work.
"We've known for a long time that the
bigger DREAM EVIL becomes, the more
time it will take from the other important
things in our lives, and in time it was
inevitable to make a decision. Therefore, we
have decided to leave Dream Evil.
"There are no hard feelings between us
and the other guys in DREAM EVIL.
We're still the best of friends and they
totally understand the position we are in.
"So it is with the best confidence we
now pass over the mantle to the new members Jake
E Berg and Tommy Larsson [bass;
ex-JAGGERNAUT, CHASTISEMENT].
They have our blessings and we are confident
they will fill our shoes just perfectly and
leave nothing for the fans to be desired.
"We wish to thank all fans for the
support through the years and for making the
time in DREAM EVIL a memory for
life."

Divine Empire

|
|
Phoenix, Arizona-based Crash Music, Inc. has announced that they have signed a licensing agreement with Century Media Records to issue in the U.S. the new
DIVINE EMPIRE album, "Method of Execution". A November 1 release is expected.
Produced once again by Jeremy Staska (MALEVOLENT CREATION, HATEPLOW, REMEMBERING NEVER, NONPOINT, POISON THE WELL), "Method of Execution" sees the band moving away from their straight-ahead death metal origins "to include a variety of influences, helping distance them from their MALEVOLENT CREATION brethren," according to a press release. "Stronger melodies, catchier song structures and hints of classical, doom, black, and even classic rock all rear their ugly heads."
DIVINE EMPIRE bassist/vocalist Jason Blachowicz (ex-MALEVOLENT CREATION) recently announced the addition of Marco Martell (guitar), David Kinkade (drums) (both from Chicago) and Frank Cusimano (guitar; from Pennsylvania) to the group's ranks. The new DIVINE EMPIRE line-up will be re-locating to Florida in the next few weeks to get the songs tight and ready for annihilation supporting "Method of Execution" in 2006.

KATAKLYSM
vocalist Maurizio Iacono has issued the
following update:
"The artwork contest is now over... We would like to thank everyone, from our fans to artists from the 4 corners of the world that have sent in their visions. The response was great!!... Now we've got to go through all of them (there's shitloads to look at!) and make a decision with our record label Nuclear Blast, so bare with us and we'll let you know who the winner is soon...
Just flew back to Chicago this morning from Montreal. I finished all my vocal tracks for the new album and I must say this was the most difficult album I've had to record! Some of these songs have crazy tempos and I had to step it up a notch, but I'm very happy with the end result... According to J-F the album should be finished in a few weeks.

STARKWEATHER
is brutal, beautiful and haunting,
combining an unparalleled level of pure
emotion and the most twisted lyrics,
with the most awe-inspiring, brutal and
eerie music you'll ever hear. Their
newest endeavor Croatoan is an album
that’s been 2 years in the making.
They’ve endured periods of dormancy,
but now they have "officially"
reawakened with Croatoan, featuring the
core lone up of Resmini, Forkin, and
Rosa, with contributions by Liam Wilson
on bass (THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN) and
Jim Winters on guitar (EARTH CRISIS,
TURMOIL, THE PROMISE), and with
additional percussion provided by Tim
Simmons. While it’s their first

first hunt for food after awaking from
its hibernation period. Fans of TODAY IS

Behemoth

|
|
Polish death/black metallers BEHEMOTH
have once again joined forces with Joanna
Rechnio, one of the leading video producers in
Poland (who also directed BEHEMOTH's
"Conquer All" clip), to shoot a
video for the song "Slaves Shall
Serve" from their latest album,
"Demigod". Due to controversial
scenes in the clip, MTV has reportedly
requested a "soft" version for
possible airplay.
Commented BEHEMOTH mainman Nergal: "I'm
still pretty pissed about [having to tone down
certain scenes in the video]. I mean, check
out all those hip hop or MARILYN MANSON
videos. Are they any less controversial than
this? I doubt it. I hate going to any
compromise but what the hell, I'm pretty sure
that most of the video channels (read: most
liberated and tolerant ones) worldwide will
play the unedited version. The truth is that I
had this need to express myself in a
more…extreme way. For me it's just another
act of great transgression and manifestation
of sincere and unrestrained ART. I guess that
some of you, especially religious people,
would find it offensive…but hey, I'm not
here to please any of you but to eventually
make up your minds. This is how I see things
and how I want you to receive me. Like it or
not, this doesn't really matter much to me. I
did what I wanted and I'm damn proud of it. I
felt like our statements in 'No Sympathy For
Fools', 'Christians to the Lions' or 'Slaves
Shall Serve' have already been misinterpreted
many times, therefore making the 'Slaves'
video essential to show our attitude towards
all that has anything to do with Christianity
(or in this case ANY stagnated, organized and
institutional religions)."
Known primarily as a producer of rock and pop
artists in her home country (Poland), Rechnio
had never worked with an extreme metal act
prior to her collaboration with BEHEMOTH.

Nach den Chart-Erfolgen von LEAVES' EYES ist LIV
KRISTINE mit den Gesangsaufnahmen für
ihr zweites Soloalbum beschäftigt. Der
langerwartete Nachfolger von "Deus ex
Machina" heißt "Enter my
Religion" und wird bei Roadrunner Records
erscheinen. LIV KRISTINE: "Die Aufnahmen
laufen wunderbar. Wir haben so viele neue Songs
produziert, dass uns die Auswahl noch sehr
schwer fallen wird. Die Lieder sind sehr
abwechslungsreich, von sanften Balladen über
rhythmische Pop-Songs ist bis zu richtig
rockigen Nummern alles dabei.
einigen sehr exotischen Instrumenten arbeiten.
Facetten ihrer Stimme verzaubern.

Roadrunner Records. LIV KRISTINE: "The
recordings are going very well. We have produced
so many new songs that it will be hard to make a
desicion concerning the final album tracks. The
songs are very diverse - you will hear soft
ballads, cadanced pop songs and also rocking
tracks. It's all so ineteresting for me as we
are working with some very exotic instruments.
This is a new challenge for me as an artist
because I can realize so many new ideas I've

Relapse
Records has announced the forthcoming
reissue of the entire recorded works of seminal
technical metal pioneers ATHEIST.
ATHEIST was one of the first truly adventurous
bands to break out of the late '80s death metal

vision directly influenced many noteworthy

PESTILENCE) and present (THE DILLINGER ESCAPE
PLAN, NECROPHAGIST, SPIRAL ARCHITECT).
Relapse will start by issuing a limited edition,
foil-stamped box set containing LP versions of
each of the ATHEIST full-lengths, as well as the
R.A.V.A.G.E. (pre-ATHEIST) "On They
Slay" 7" EP exclusive to this edition.
The LP box will be strictly limited to 1,000
copies and surface in July. The CD re-issues

Huntenpop

Huntenpop
Festival
übersteht
alle Stürme
Nach
der überaus mäßigen Teilnahme des Publikums am
‘Pinkpop’ in diesem Jahr ist eine heftige
Diskussion über Konzerte und Festivals in den
Niederlanden ausgebrochen.
Diskussion nichts an. Mit
einer Achterhoeksen Nüchternheit wird am Samstag,
den 3. September ein Festival mit insgesamt 35
Bands präsentiert, wofür der Besucher nur €
30,00 bezahlt.
Westeuropas. Beginnend natürlich mit den Gruppen
aus Deutschland, darunter AK 4711 und In
Extremo. Aus den Niederlanden kommen
Intwine, die Julian Sas Band, Epica,
Grolschbusters, Nemesea und Daniël Lohues &
The Louisiana Blues Club.
Tribute
Night
Dem Huntenpop Festival am Samstag, den 3. September geht ein Abend unter dem
Titel TRIBUTE TO’ voraus.
Awards Gelderland Competitie“ reserviert.

Opeth

|
|
Sweden's OPETH have posted the following message on their official web site:
"We can now officially announce that OPETH has signed a worldwide contract with Roadrunner records. The rumours were true! The new album is set to be released sometime in the late August or early September of 2005.
"OPETH has cancelled their Vienna/Austria Aerodrome festival appearance (May 27) due to the recording taking longer time than expected. We are very sorry for the fans who expected to see OPETH there, but we hope to return to Austria as soon as humanly possible!
"The recording process is going well. One song is mixed and done, another one in the process of being mixed. Solos are being recorded as well as death screams. Some songtitles? 'Ghost of Perdition', 'The Baying of the Hounds', 'Isolation Years' and 'Harlequin Forest'. The record plan to be done by June 1.

Heathen

|
|
San Francisco Bay Area metallers HEATHEN have issued a short statement regarding the passing of their former bassist Mike "Yaz" Jastremski. The statement reads as follows:
"We are truly stunned by the news of the passing of our metal brother Mike 'Yaz' Jastremski. He passed on this morning [May 23]. We will all miss him dearly. May he rest in peace."
Jastremski performed on HEATHEN's classic 1987 debut "Breaking the Silence" before leaving the group a short time later to form PIGS. He eventually rejoined HEATHEN in time for their appearance at the August 2001 Thrash of the Titans benefit concert for TESTAMENT frontman Chuck Billy.
HEATHEN parted ways with Jastremski in June 2004 over what was rumored at the time to be Yaz's "continued drug and drinking problems." He was replaced in the group by Jon Torres, who had previously participated in such bands as THUNDERHEAD, WARNING SF, ULYSSES SIREN, LAAZ ROCKIT and ANGEL WITCH.
HEATHEN guitarist Lee Altus said at the time of Yaz's final departure from the band, "We're sorry to see [Yaz] go and wish him all the best. He is a good friend and I'm glad that we parted ways without any animosity and can still remain best of friends."

today news about MARDUK
- OVERKILL - TYPE O NEGATIVE - DORO |

Marduk

|
|
MARDUK's official web site has been updated with the following message:
"MARDUK will be back on the road touring at the end of August. According to the management, Europe will be hit first, followed by South America. The first tour dates will be posted soon..."
MARDUK were forced to cancel their European tour earlier in the year after drummer Emil Dragutinovic's arm was broken in a fight back in February.
The band recently put the finishing touches on the videos for the songs "Throne of Rats" and "The Hangman of Prague".
MARDUK's ninth full-length album, "Plague Angel", was released in the U.S. in March. The album came out in Europe last November via Blooddawn/Regain Records.

Overkill

|
|
Drummer Tim Mallare has
offically left OVERKILL,
according to a posting on the group's web site. Mallare
is said to have exited the group of "his own
accord. His contribution over the last 14 years
have been at the highest level. He will be missed!
Joining OVERKILL as the permanent
replacement for Mallare is Ron Lipnicki,
formerly of HADES. "[Ron's]
work and talents have been tireless through the
band's Euro tour," according to a post on the
band's web site. "OVERKILL looks
forward to presenting their newest member to YOU
on the road!"
Tim Mallare originally came into the group
prior to the recording of 1993's "I Hear
Black".

|

Type O Negative

|
|
Despite
a message on the band's official web site that
seems to suggest otherwise, TYPE
O NEGATIVE frontman Peter Steele HAS NOT
DIED.
The band, who are famous for their dark sense of
humor, have spent much of the last few months
preparing material for their SPV Records debut,
which is expected to be recorded later in the
year.
TYPE O NEGATIVE cancelled their U.S. tour last
fall in order to allow Steele to undergo further
tests after "undisclosed anomalies" were
discovered during a medical exam. A February 11,
2005 update on Peter's condition from TYPE O
NEGATIVE drummer Johnny Kelly stated, "There
really isn't much to report other than he's doing
fine and his health is improving daily."

today news about COLT |

Colt/Living With
Eating Disorders

|
|
From the ashes of
Living With Eating Disorders grew a brand new animal...
Andrea Kerr, Jared Christian Hawkes and Mark Bishop, keen to move beyond the controversy surrounding the name, and the increasing concern over Andrea’s self-injury, took some time away from gigging to concentrate on recording an album. Time away from the stress of the London gigging circuit gave the band a clearer outlook to decide what was important to them and reassess their reasons for making music. Still convinced that making music together was what they wanted to do most, they decided to leave behind the name, the pressure that went with it and create a new beast!
Colt have an album in place and will return with some live dates in the summer.

AETERNITAS______________________
„La Danse
Macabre“ Live Show
Mit der
Veröffentlichung ihres zweiten Albums „La
Danse Macabre“ im Juli 2004
haben sich
AETERNITAS den Gothic-Theatre-Metal auf ihre
Fahnen geschrieben.
Dass es sich
dabei nicht bloß um laue Versprechungen
handelt, werden die neun Jungs
und Mädels von
AETERNITAS mit ihrer theatralischen Bühnenshow
eindrucksvoll unter
Beweis stellen.
Die Stücke ihres Totentanzes werden nicht bloß
live präsentiert,
sondern der Tod
wird sich wahrhaft auf der Bühne seinen
Opfern nähern und sie
ohne Gnade in
sein Reich ziehen. Mit aufwendigen Kostümen,
Requisiten und
Hintergründen
werden AETERNITAS eine neue Form des gotischen
Theaters
präsentieren,
die sicherlich viele alte und neue Fans
begeistern wird.
