Let’s give a look behind, and tell me something about the origin of the band…

There’s no more nothing to say in addiction of what people know; the band was formed at the end of 1998; our first album should have been my personal first one, but the events went in a different way, and now I’m very happy about it, considering that I’ve my personal band!

After you left Labyrinth, how are the relationships with your ex-band?

I may affirm that there aren’t kind of relationships, even if I read that some of them  say that are still in contact with me. The only person I’ve  met is Roberto , but never again I see the other components!

Have you already listened new Labyrinth album?

Yes, I’ve, but not with the proper care. It has been realized in a very good way, but it’s very far from what Labyrinth were! By the way I don’t want to be polemical,  if I left the band it's cause there are some valid reasons.  There are many things I see in a different way from them,  but it’s not right that I tell about the problems I had with them, so I prefer to keep them for me.

What do you tell me about the new Vision Divine’s album recordings? When will it be out?

We’re just recording it , we’ve already seated the drums recording and at the moment we’re taking care about arrangements. The album will be ready in December.

Some times ago you told about your lack of stimuli , you had no trust in all music-world and all these sensations convinced you to stop playing. Fortunately, now, you’ve changed idea about it….

No!!!Nothing is changed! It’s probable that now I’m more disappointed than before! I have to thank all those people that give me a helping-hand to go on with VD , and now I may affirm that my band is the only work in which I’m at my leisure!

Tell me something about the participation of new components in song writing

As I told you, they’re all very good both tecniqual and human aspect as well. When you decide to form a band at 20 years you search the components among your friends, and during the years you live the music experience in respect of the friendship, but there’s a moment in which someone opens your eyes to reality. Now I’m 30, and I’ve re-organized all the work that was considered only a personal side-project from most people; at first all the choices project was based on musicians ability , but to my surprise I see that a new feeling has been created among us, as if we were playing together for many years! I don’t want to repeat the usually phrase “It seems that we’ve been played together since the beginning” but it’s amazing to see that we’ve found a very good feeling, and moreover I see that everyone makes his task, and every member does the best of himself in order to give the best to realize a good album. Matteo Amoroso is the new drummer. Most of you can remind him with Athena; they realized one of the most beautiful Italian release ever. It is alled “A new religion”. I think that there’s no more to say but about Matteo’s ability with drums. He has brought a new atmosphere into the band , considering that even if he begun as session man, since the first day he has worked as a real member. Oleg Smirnoff is the new keyboarder. He’s not an unknown musician because he plays also with Death  SS and Eldritch. We know us since 1994;  then we played in two promising band from Toscana (Italian region). After some years I’m very happy to have  worked with him and I may affirm that his musical apport has been fondamental. We’ve been worked for 4 years, and I told him to be himself concerning musical approach without to imitate others bands. You’ll understand what I say when you’ll listen our new album.

Oleg plays different comparing with Mc Pauls, I think that it will be notable in new arrangement…

Of course, as I told you,  he’s the perfect keyboarder and he’s just what I need. Oleg has full freedom concerning compositive aspect because he’s worthy of it .He has done an excellent work.

How is Fabio Lione  now? In his latest performances he seemed a bit down…..

Fabio is well and I don’t agree with you, I understand that for all the people is more easy to think that it may happen to not be at the top of yourself, and just in that moment, you have a lot of concerts that could give a bad impression on you…I think that Fabio’s ability is unquestionable and his contribution as well. Now he’s in Germany with Rhapsody and I’m sure that he’s doing a great work as he’s able to do. I only hope to solve my problems with his manager , but it doesn’t depends on him.

In your opinion how’s difficult to join hyper technicality  with the melody, moreover I want to ask you something about your live set-up guitar.   

Hyper-technicality is not just melody and in my opinion is very important to keep in mind your idea and consequently to make choices about it. As first aspect I always choice the melody ,technique is a secondary aspect of my musical approach, it is very important in order to realize what you feel inside your soul and also in order to give a little of improvement but in order to compose a good song  you need a great melody …no a 4356 timing!!!!!:) In Live performance I use: Esp 7strings guitars, Mesa boogie amp Triple rectifier, Rocktron intellipitch concerning effects, when I need of them. I usually prefer to leave the task to insert the effects to phonic.

Your opinion about NU-METAL, and your opinion also about the search of that typically 80’s melody that belong of you!

I hate Nu-Metal considering that I think that it doesn’t belong to Metal, but I esteem Sistem of a down. Of course I don’t think that they play Nu-Metal. Concerning 80’s melodies…I ‘ve grown up with that music, Obviously, you notice this influence in my compositions. Now I’m curious to hear new band formed with 20 years old components in order to understand about their inspirations (It seems that I’m 45!!!!!!!!it’s not true)

Which musical production (not only concerning metal) has given an impression on you…

I’m not able to give an answer to this question because in the last period I have had no time to listen new productions, considering that I’ve been engaged with my band to realize next Vd album, and As I usually do I don’t want to listen any others productions because I don’t want to be  influenced from other bands.

As last question I propose our usual typical final question, it is called THE GAME OF THE TOWER! You’re on a very high tower, and on this tower there are three bands are waiting for you; you have to push down two of them, saving the third one…For you there are:

METALLICA  TESTAMENT  MEGADETH

What a difficult question!!! I can push down the person that has asked me it!:) …in exchange for a jam session weekend with all these three bands!!!(You understand that I love all the bands you mentioned , also those that have realized crappy albums in these latest years! Anyhow these are the bands with whom I grown up!

Parliamo un pò delle origini del gruppo........
 
Beh non c'e molto da aggiungere che non si sappia gia'. La band e' nata alla fine del '98. Originariamente quello che poi in realta' e' diventato il 1° album dei VD avrebbe dovuto essere il mio album da solista, ma poi le cose sono andate diversamente e sicuramente oggi sono molto piu' contento cosi', dato che ho ancora una mia band "vera" a cui dedicarmi.
 

Dopo Lo split con il Labyrinth, in che rapporti sei rimasto con i tuoi
ex soci?
 
Diciamo tranquillamente "in nessun tipo di rapporto" , anche se qualcuno ho letto che afferma di sentirmi e incontrarmi spesso. La sola persona che ho incontrato un paio di volte e' Roberto, gli altri li ho persi di vista sin dal primo giorno in cui sono uscito dalla band

 
Hai ascoltato il nuovo dei Labyrinth? Se si, che te ne pare?
 
L'ho ascoltato,anche se non attentamente. E' un disco fatto bene,che pero' credo non c'entri un cazzo con quello che erano i Labyrinth,ad ogni modo non voglio essere polemico,e credo sia giusto cosi', dopotutto me ne sono uscito dalla band, e qualche motivo di sara' pure dovuto essere. Ovviamente ci sono diverse cose che non condivido piu' con loro,ma non credo sia giusto stare ad elencarle, diciamo che preferisco tenermele private.

Come procedono la registrazioni del nuovo dei Vision Divine? A quando l'uscita?
 
Siamo in studio proprio adesso,abbiamo gia' terminato le batterie e adesso stiamo curando gli arrangiamenti. L'album sara' terminato entro Dicembre.
 

Qualche tempo fa hai parlato di mancanza di stimoli e di sfiducia in tutto il mondo della musica che ti avevono portato a dire di smettere di suonare, fortunatamente non è stato cosi, é cambiato qualcosa?
 
No,non mi e' cambiato niente. Forse sono ancora piu' amareggiato di un tempo. Ringrazio solo di avere trovato delle persone che ancora mi fanno avere voglia di suonare con i VD, e ormai ti dico tranquillamente che questo e' l'ultimo piccolo mondo in cui mi trovo a mio agio. Se non altro qui adesso va tutto bene, ci divertiamo, portiamo avanti quello che ci interessa e se posso dirlo credo anche che tutti i cambiamenti che ci sono stati abbiano portato delle gran belle novita' a quello che sara' il nostro prossimo lavoro.
 

Come si sono inseriti i nuovi componenti nel songwriting? Parlaci un po' di loro?
 
Come ti dicevo sono tutti eccezionali, sia tecnicamente che soprattutto dal punto di vista umano. Quando metti su una band a 20 anni ovviamente cerchi tra la cerchia di amici, e quando passano gli anni continui a vedere tutto in relazione anche alle amicizie, e questo e' quello che poi ti brucia di piu' nel momento in cui qualcuno ti fa aprire gli occhi. Adesso mi sono ritrovato a 30 anni a "riorganizzare" quello che per molti e' sempre stato un semplice side project, e ovviamente le scelte si sono basate inizialmente sulle capacita' dei musicisti, ma mi ha fatto enormemente piacere vedere che nel corso di quest'anno si e' creato di nuovo un feeling tra noi, come se suonassimo insieme da molto piu' tempo . Non voglio fare il solito discorso ridicolo del tipo "sembra che suoniamo insieme da sempre", ma e' stato bello vedere che ci siamo amalgamati perfettamente e oltretutto direi che adesso tutti i ruoli sono ben definiti,e ognuno lavora per far rendere al massimo il nuovo album.
Matteo Amoroso e' il nuovo batterista. Sicuramente molti lo ricorderanno dietro alle pelli degli Athena, che fecero quello che io considero uno dei piu' bei lavori italiani, parlo di "A new Religion". Non credo ci sia molto da dire su di lui, nel senso che ovviamente e' un grande dietro alla batteria. Mi piace dire di lui che ha portato una nuova atmosfera di unita' all'interno del gruppo, dato che sin dal primo giorno, pur essendo entrato inizialmente come sessionist, ha dimostrato di credere nella band e di sentirsene parte.
Oleg Smirnoff e' il nuovo tastierista. Anche lui tra Death SS ed Eldritch credo non sia proprio sconosciuto. Ci conoscevamo dal '94, quando suonavamo in  2 promettenti giovani band toscane. A distanza di anni sono contentissimo di avere finalmente potuto lavorare con lui, e ti dico subito che per il discorso musicale il suo apporto e'stato fondamentale. Abbiamo lavorato praticamente a 4 mani, e soprattutto gli ho chiesto semplicemente di essere se' stesso, senza sentirsi in dovere di imitare nessuno. Capirai quello che intendo il giorno in cui ascolterai il nuovo album

 
Oleg Smirnoff è un tastierista sostanzialmente diverso da Mc Pauls...penso che questo inciderà molto nei nuovi arrangiamenti...Che ne pensi?
 
Certo, come ti ho detto sopra infatti era proprio quello che volevo. Oleg ha avuto pienissima liberta' perche' credo se la meriti. Ha fatto un lavoro eccezionale,davvero.
 

Come sta Fabio Lione ..a mio parere ultimamente mi è sembrato un pò sotto tono....
a mio parere mi sembra lontano dal cantante sentito in NO LIMITS dei Labyrith e Legendary
Tales dei Rhapsody.....
 
Fabio sta bene,e non sono molto d'accordo sul fatto che possa essere "in calo". Mi rendo anche conto che per chi e' al di fuori a volte sia meno semplice comprendere che puo' succedere di non attraversare un buon momento, e magari proprio in quel momento avere una serie di concerti da suonare, che come risultato danno una brutta impressione di te...Credo che le capacita' di Fabio siano indiscutibili, e ancor piu' i meriti di tutto quello che ha fatto. Adesso lui e' in Germania con i Rhapsody, e sono sicuro che fara' un grande lavoro come sempre. Spero solo che si riescano a risolvere i problemi che sto avendo con il suo nuovo manager, ma questo certo non dipende da lui...
 

A tuo giudizio quanto è difficile far convivere ipertecnicismi e melodia?E poi volevo chiederti
qual'è il tuo SET-UP guitar nelle live performance!
 
Ipertecnicismo non e' propriamente melodia, e credo infatti che si debba sempre tenere presente il proprio obiettivo, e fare delle scelte di conseguenza.
Io ho sempre scelto la melodia, e quindi vedo la tecnica come un lato secondario, sicuramente necessaria (ovviamente) per poter realizzare quello che senti dentro e magari anche per "esagerare" un po' qualche volta per dare un po' di movimento ai brani,ma sicuramente un pezzo per essere grandioso deve avere una melodia grandiosa, non certo un tempo in 4356 sedicesimi ehehe...
dal vivo uso poca roba, chitarre ESP Custom Shop 7 corde, testata Mesa Boogie Triple rectifier, Rocktron intellipitch per gli effetti quando servono,anche se di solito preferisco suonare asciutto, lasciando al fonico il compito di metter gli effetti in uscita per chi ascolta il concerto.

 
Il tuo parere sul Nu-Metal...e poi voglio anche la tua opinione sul recupero di quella tipicamente melodia 80's che comunque vi appartiene tanto......
 
Odio il Nu metal nel senso che non capisco che abbia a che fare con il metal. Non e' metal, e' qualcos'altro..
Musicalmente parlando ci sono delle band che pero' mi interessano e che stimo, come ad esempio i Sistem of a Down. Certo trovo difficile dire che facciano metal...
Quanto alle melodie 80's che ti posso dire, ovviamente io sono cresciuto con quelle ed e' normale che affiorino qua e la' nei miei lavori. Sono curioso di sentire le nuove bands di oggi, formate da ragazzi di 18-20 anni, perche' voglio sentire a cosa invece si sentono legati loro (minchia se parlo cosi' pero' sembra che io abbia 45 anni ehehehe Non e' verooooo ehhhhh)
 
 

Quale produzione discografica (non solo metal) ultimamente ti ha impressionato di più?
 
A questo non so rispondere, non ho ascoltato molte cose nuove in questi ultimi tempi, dato che sono chiuso in studio a preparare il nuovo VD e come sempre in questi casi mi chiudo gli orecchi per evitare di rimanere influenzato da cose dell'ultimo momento...

(credo si sia capito che stimo tutte e 3 le bands,compreso chi ultimamente ha fatto delle cagate ma che non per questo posso buttare interamente nel cesso,dopotutto sono 3 bands con cui sono cresciuto...)
