Hi J-F, first off thank you for your time, great honour an interview with you!
J-F Dagenais sagt:
always a pleasure
so what's boiling in Kataklysm cauldron? we are waiting for major news!!
lot is going on but i can talk right now about some of the stuff, i have to keep my mouth shut for a few more weeks but our new album is gonna be released end of august, a little earlyer then planned.
Its pretty major stuff for us anyways.
yes a little earlier than planned, is there some kind of pressure or is everything going so smooth ?
no pressure, everything is going great, Max has just finished recording the drum tracks
we are pretty stocked about this record
he did a phenomenal performance, im proud of him
Max is always the right Kataklysm drummer isn't it?
yes he is, hope he sticks around till the end
he is by far my favorite drummer to play with and a true friend
about the feeling and rocking out, not trying to impress with super technicality or weird time signatures.
will Heaven's Venom bring some refining of your well known and unique hyperblast style?
of course, i think this album carrys very dangerous elements of
Kataklysm at is best. Max hyperblasting skills are flawless on these songs, it makes him shines more as a drummer i think
tentative songtitles are, "Blind Savior", "Hail the Renegade" and "Push the Venom". they seem to me more Rock title than Death Metal ones
i dont know, we are pretty spontaneous and meaningful when we write, its
Kataklysm, i dont see it any other way.
and let music and lyrics speak for you all!
and dont expect any less from us, we are who we are and proud of it.
be sure!! but you know... fans want always ....mooooore!!!
by the way,
can Kataklysm top Kataklysm so?
i mean... the latest albums were first class
Heaven's Venom mst be a bomb...must
we all love it, i dont want to say things like its the heavyest best record fastest and most brutal and melodic album ever. we want people to decide but im 250% proud of what weve accomplished on this one.
lyrics are written of course by Maurizio, has it ever been a moment where the band suggested some inspirations on lyrics ?
or even didn't agree?
or cooperate actively?
i think we are all brothers in this band and know each other for half of our lives, and we support
Maurizio and his views
he is the lyric guy for Kataklysm and we are always amazed about his lyrics, very deep and
personal approach to it.
i can imagine
tell me please one thing!!
will there be another movie quotation intro?
we are not sure yet, the first song is so strong that it might just start with music unless we come accross something really meaningful to us all.
heartbeast in the cover art?
we havent really spoken about it yet, but we are gonna use the same artist that did the kataklysm prevail reissue artwork, we thought it was
amazing. maybe let him hear some of the music to inspire him
i will jump the Tue Madsen question
ok
i prefer to speak now about you as guitarist
you play/record with a Washburn guitar right?, which are the Washburn characteristics that will be heard in the new album?
im not a super tech gear freak but i like the guitar they made for me, it plays well and very balanced, now with a emg pickup so really
powerful and high gain
i like the way they hold my low B tunning
some guitars you keep going out of tune
just*
Ex Deo and Kataklysm, what is different for you concerning guitar playing?
Kataklysm is more a challenge playing wise, Ex Deo is more darker and different in style, I really enjoy my role in both bands, helps me become a more accomplished musician
I like how i can be creative in differant ways with both bands
you have composed all tracks in Heaven's Venom?
actually we all did,
i would say a little more me and Stephane on this album
but everyone contributes
Max as ideas and Maurizio is a great song writer too
ah ah nice team work but more was upon your shoulder and the ones of Stephan, the main composers in the band
it depends, Maurizio and Stephane wrote more Shadows and
Dust and i did more work on In The Arms and Prevail, depends really, we are very open to everyones ideas
whatever is good is good, we dont care who writes it, why you always see music written by
Kataklysm on every album.
i adore both shadows and arms. yes, i see always "music by Kataklysm"...
yesMystical
Gate Of Reincarnation, listen here "guitars unleash their precision on variations of basic, even simplistic counterpoint riffing, but find a method of transferring the simple direction to an enlightened complement of drums" i
t is an excerption of a review about Mystical , could it be still an actual review?
i think we where much more all over the place back then, nowdays its more about good songs and structured in a good simple effective way.
sometimes less is more
yes, we love AC DC for that, they got it right lol
ohhhhh but you are a great Iron Maiden fan
i am
they made me want to play guitar
ahh i watch and watch than video...you know which one "Kataklysm members + Seventh son..."
you are going ballistic, you are so adorable then!!
I think the Seventh Son album is my ultimate favorite album of all time.
it was a funny drunk evening on tour, we actually did the whole record like that.
with or without grappa!?
oh with lots of beers i beleive
ah ok without grappa !!!
ehmmm classic quick question: are there projects for videos, dvd's and gigs? festival this summer?
we will be busy most of the summer with Ex Deo, doing a open air run
in Europe
and Wacken with Kataklysm and Heavy Montreal open air
we will also do a video for Push The Venom, should be released early august.
ah great !
oh now i would like to shortly guest two
questions of Alex Ramirez (costa rican fan ) that is responsible for Central and
South American bands in gryphon:
first of his questions : after the experience of touring as EX
DEO, would you consider that Kataklysm could add a second live guitar?
not at all, we are a familly in Kataklysm, and hope this band dies with us 4,
Ex Deo was great with 2 guitars though, it needs it, Kataklysm has its own sound and 1 guitar is part of it.
dalia of gryphonmetal sagt:
seond of his questions: possibility of gigs in Central and South America like other big bands are doing?
we are always looking at that option, and really want to make space in our schedule for it, we would love to go if someone brings us there.
i wish it to the band and to all your fans there!
i hope it happens.
dalia of gryphonmetal sagt:
are there musician guests in Heaven's Venom?
i hope no....
not so far
i dont think there will be
ah ok!!!!!!!!
in your opinion, can a song change the world or is the world that changes the songs?
i think music is personal, a song can interact or agree and disagree with your toughts,
it speaks to people in many different ways
it could mean something to someone and something else to someone else
i beleive you can interpret many ways and there is not a good or a bad way.
on Facebook there is under this address a page dedicated to you...http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Les-solos-de-J-F-Dagenais-Kataklysm/282433337386?ref=ts
Les solos de J-F Dagenais (Kataklysm), do you know it?
no i dont lol
do people really care about my solos? lol
i dont think im the best guitar player in the world
it seems yes, that there is people who cares
yes but.... this major news......is a participation to a great event , right?
i cant talk about it
it is forbidden unfortunately
give us just a pale idea!!! a direction!!
its a big deal for us and we are exicited
Game of the Clones
the last question
which of these 3 persons would you clone, if you could?
Sylvain Houde
Martin Maurais
Maurizio Iacono
haha i think they are all really original and unique strong personalities and i would not clone them. I prefer people leaving there mark in there own lifetime and cloning should be illegal haha, like the movie
The Island
clones get used for replacements body parts
ahh i saw it in preview and reviewed it, a film of Warner Bros.
i think people should live there lives to the fullest
me too
to the fullest!!
rock n roll!!!!
indeed !!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you for this chat J-F!!!
all the be(a)st for this new album!!! and to you and the band
thank you
a big cheers to everyone
